What is a Sr Full Stack Developer?

A Sr Full Stack Developer is an experienced software engineer who is proficient in both front-end and back-end development. They are responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining applications that span across the user interface, server logic, databases, and sometimes DevOps tasks. Senior full stack developers typically have expertise in multiple programming languages, frameworks, and tools, and they often mentor junior developers and help set technical direction for projects. Their versatility allows them to handle a wide range of tasks and contribute to all stages of the software development lifecycle.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Sr Full Stack Developer?

To thrive as a Sr Full Stack Developer, you need deep expertise in both front-end (e.g., JavaScript, React, HTML/CSS) and back-end (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, databases) development, supported by a relevant degree or equivalent experience. Proficiency with version control systems like Git, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure), containerization (Docker), and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and testing frameworks are typically required. Strong problem-solving, collaboration, and communication skills help you translate business needs into technical solutions and mentor junior developers. These skills are crucial for delivering robust, scalable applications and driving successful project outcomes in dynamic team environments.

What are some common challenges Sr Full Stack Developers face when balancing front-end and back-end tasks within agile teams?

Sr Full Stack Developers often navigate the challenge of context-switching between front-end and back-end development, especially in agile environments where priorities can shift quickly. Balancing user interface refinement with robust API or database development requires strong time management and clear communication with both designers and backend engineers. Additionally, staying updated with evolving technologies on both ends is crucial for delivering high-quality, integrated solutions. Regular collaboration with product owners, QA, and DevOps teams helps streamline workflows and ensures alignment on project goals.

Is a senior full stack developer still in demand?

Senior full stack developers remain in high demand due to their ability to work across front-end and back-end technologies, with skills in frameworks like React, Angular, Node.js, and cloud platforms. Job description

Federated/Fisher Auto Parts, Home of the Parts Professionals!

Providing world class customer service and reliable auto parts and accessories for over 95 years! Fisher Auto Parts' employees are one of the key ingredients to our success - past, present and future. Fisher has many different career and employment opportunities, as well as benefits to offer new and current employees!

We're looking for highly talented software engineers to join our development team with a primary focus on our core point-of-sale platform and the broader ecosystem of applications it connects to across the enterprise. We're looking for AI-native engineers who default to working through AI agents at every stage of the SDLC: planning, implementation, review, testing, and debugging. You'll design, build, and ship features across a modern full-stack codebase, working on everything from high-density data tables and interactive UI to the REST APIs and shared contracts that keep our systems in sync. This is a hands-on role for someone who thrives working closely with a team, moves quickly without cutting corners, and wants real impact and immediate feedback on the software that runs our business every day. We're growing this team to keep pace with a large and expanding body of work, so strong collaboration and communication across engineers matter as much as individual skill.

Supervision

The employee in this position reports to the VP of Information Technology and does not supervise other employees.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Design, build, and maintain features across our core platform's React/TypeScript frontend and Fastify API, plus the shared schema layer that keeps it and its downstream consumers in sync.

  • Work in an agile environment alongside a small, highly skilled team covering the full SDLC - from design through deployment.

  • Provide reliable effort estimates and consistently deliver against them.

  • Communicate directly with business stakeholders - operations, finance, merchandising, IT, and other teams - to translate real-world workflows into shipped software.

  • Build highly interactive, data-dense UI (large tables, filtering, bulk actions) that stays fast, intuitive, and consistent across browsers and devices.

  • Design and evolve REST APIs and shared Zod-based contracts with a backwards-compatibility-first mindset - the platform is consumed by other applications you may not always see, so breaking changes require care and versioning discipline.

  • Apply strong security fundamentals across the stack: input validation, safe AWS access patterns (IAM roles, not static credentials), dependency supply-chain hygiene, and general web application security.

  • Work comfortably with relational databases - schema design, queries, and data modeling across all business domains.

  • Integrate with AWS services and other third-party APIs as needed.

  • Work AI-native by default - using AI agents to plan, implement, test, debug, and review your work - while staying fully accountable for the correctness, quality, and security of everything you ship.

  • Coordinate closely with other engineers on the team to divide up and stay aligned on a large, shared body of work.

  • Take on other duties as assigned, with the flexibility to move between frontend, backend, and infrastructure work as the team's needs shift.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Solid understanding of the SDLC and agile development practices such as writing automated tests as part of the work rather than after it, reviewing teammates' code, and shipping through CI/CD with staged environments and end-to-end verification before production.

  • Excellent communication skills and a strong collaborative instinct - you'll work closely with teammates and non-technical stakeholders alike.

  • Sharp attention to detail and a genuine problem-solving mindset.

  • Genuinely AI-native - use of AI coding agents across the full dev lifecycle, with the judgment to direct them on substantial tasks and catch subtle mistakes in their output.

  • Deep hands-on expertise with modern web technologies: TypeScript, React, Node.js, HTML5, CSS3, and RESTful API design.

  • Comfort working across multiple related repositories with strict typing, shared schemas (Zod), and modern tooling (Vite, Vitest, Playwright, ESLint/Prettier).

  • Understanding of relational databases and schema designs, with an appreciation for efficient queries against production data.

  • Ability to design and consume REST APIs, including versioning and contract stability across multiple consuming applications.

  • Working knowledge of general system and network architecture, protocols, and how they apply to enterprise software integration.

  • Practical experience with AWS (S3, IAM, Athena, Lambda, or similar) and applying cloud-native patterns securely.

  • A bias toward speed and strong teamwork - comfortable moving fast, shipping iteratively, and working well within a team tackling a large, shared workload.
