Job description

The Opportunity:

In this role, you will report to the Scientific Services Supervisor and will work closely with the Avantor's Lab and Production Services professionals to serve our customers by performing customized, mission-based lab work and research protocols that help return time back to science.

Location: Spring House, PA
Schedule: Monday-Friday | 8:00 AM-4:00 PM (hours may vary)
Salary Range: $85,500-$95,000 annually + up to 5% ICP Annual Bonus

What we're looking for

Education

  • Master's degree with 2-4 years of relevant experience

Experience

  • Minimum 2-4 years of laboratory experience in biotechnology, pharmaceutical, biologics, or life sciences environments.

  • Industry experience supporting biologics development preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Demonstrated experience with:

    • Primary cell isolation from leukopaks

    • Manual cell isolation techniques

    • Multiparametric flow cytometry

    • Flow cytometry data analysis

    • Cell culture and aseptic techniques

    • Inventory and sample management

  • Experience with:

    • FlowJo

    • Mosaic

    • Signals

    • Microsoft Teams

    • Strong documentation and compliance practices.

Instrumentation Experience

Experience operating and troubleshooting one or more of the following:

  • Miltenyi CliniMACS Prodigy

  • BD LSRFortessa

  • BD FACSymphony

  • Miltenyi MACSQuant

  • iQue Flow Cytometry Platforms

Highly Preferred Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Prodigy Superuser experience or prior CliniMACS Prodigy certification

  • Advanced expertise in complex multiparametric flow characterization and analysis

  • Deep understanding of cytometer maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization

  • Experience supporting biologics discovery and development programs

  • Automation and workflow programming experience

  • Experience with laboratory robotics and automated systems

  • Strong scientific problem-solving and experimental design capabilities

Nice-to-Have Qualifications
  • Liquid handler programming

  • Algorithm development

  • Biomics or computational biology experience

  • Coding or scripting experience supporting laboratory automation

Avantor's Lab and Production Services team is a crucial part of the Avantor Services group serving over 500 customers in biopharma, pharmaceutical, educational, industrial, and high-tech industries with customizable, flexible solutions and end-to-end laboratory operations support.

Cell Isolation & Cell Processing

  • Perform primary cell isolations from human leukopaks using the Miltenyi CliniMACS Prodigy platform.

  • Execute manual and automated cell isolation workflows while maintaining aseptic techniques.

  • Process human and animal samples in accordance with SOPs and safety requirements.

  • Support biologics development activities through the generation and processing of primary cell samples.

  • Conduct cell inventory management, live sample tracking, and liquid nitrogen (LN2) cell pulls supporting multiple BFP programs.

Flow Cytometry & Data Analysis

  • Operate and troubleshoot flow cytometry platforms including:

    • BD LSRFortessa

    • BD FACSymphony

    • Miltenyi MACSQuant

    • iQue systems

  • Perform complex multiparametric flow cytometry assays, including:

    • Experimental design

    • Sample preparation

    • Acquisition

    • Compensation

    • Gating strategy development

    • Data analysis and interpretation

  • Serve as a key resource for flow cytometer maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and instrument performance monitoring.

  • Coordinate routine maintenance, deep cleaning, vendor servicing, and replacement part management.

Assay Development & Biologics Support

  • Develop and optimize biological and cell-based assays supporting biologics discovery and development efforts.

  • Analyze and characterize cellular responses using advanced cytometry techniques.

  • Support portfolio-wide biologics initiatives through scientific experimentation and laboratory execution.

  • Participate in method development and continuous improvement projects.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate laboratory notebooks and electronic records.

  • Document experiments, observations, protocols, and results in accordance with GDP and compliance requirements.

  • Utilize Mosaic, SharePoint, Signals, FlowJo, and related systems for data and inventory management.

  • Ensure compliance with customer, regulatory, and Avantor quality standards.

Automation & Scientific Innovation

  • Support laboratory automation initiatives.

  • Collaborate on automated workflows and instrument integration projects.

  • Contribute to programming and workflow optimization efforts when applicable.

  • Assist in evaluating new technologies and automation solutions supporting biologics development.
