PRIMARY POSITIONFUNCTION/SUMMARY:
The Web Application Developer position is responsiblefor full cycle dynamic web application development. Additional responsibilitiesto include testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of existingapplications utilizing a variety of programming languages to connect to dynamicdatabase systems. Other duties include development and maintenance of theIllinois Fire Service Institute (IFSI) website, and the IFSI LearningManagement System (Moodle). This position will work closely with the other membersof the IT staff to determine client needs and assist with programming projectsand development.
DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES:
Web ApplicationDevelopment and Maintenance

• Design, testing, and implementation of web application solutions utilizing many different programming/scripting languages such as JavaScript, HTML, CSS, MSSQL (SQL), Coldfusion and other languages as needed.
• Development and maintenance of web-based applications for managing student records, class information, billing, timesheets, travel reporting, and other mission critical business components.
• Assist with resolution of web application related errors, bug testing, and documentation.
• Designing responsive applications with mobile compatibility and ADA compliance.
• Maintain compliance with W3C, State of Illinois, University of Illinois, and ADA web standards.
• Integrate data with the IFSI Learning Management System and other Web based content.
• Assist with codebase version control usage and management along with other programming staff.

DatabaseMaintenance and Web Services Infrastructure Support

• Assist the Manager of Systems Services/Director of Information Technology and other IT staff with managing database schema and maintaining data integrity.
• Assist the Manager ofSystems Services/Director of Information Technology and other IT staff withmanaging Web Server Infrastructure, Web Security, search engine improvements,and associated services.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:

1. High school diploma orequivalent.
2. Two (2) years of workexperience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support,programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, orclosely related field. College coursework which includes Information Technology(IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related disciplinemay be substituted as follows: 30 semester hours equals one (1) year,Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen (18) months, 90 semesterhours equals two (2) years, Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three(3) years).
3. Demonstrated experiencedeveloping web applications.
4. Demonstrated proficiency inHTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
5. Demonstrated experiencequerying and working with relational databases using SQL or similartechnologies.
6. Demonstrated experience in at least one server-sidescripting language (such as Coldfusion, Java, Python, Ruby, Node.js, PHP, orASP.NET.

Preferred:

1. Three to Five years ofprogressively more responsible work experience in a Programming and WebApplication Development related profession doing full stack development.
2. Experience creating and altering SQL queries to retrieveand display data.
3. Experience with JavaScript Frameworks such as Angular,Angular JS, or React.
4. Experience with ColdFusion programming language. Otherserver-side scripting languages considered with desire to transfer existingknowledge and skills to current environment.
5. Demonstrated experience with Version Control Systems suchas GIT.
6. Experience with secure applications programming, includingusing SSL, TLS, to secure communications.
7. Abilityto manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

1. Strong communication andcollaboration skills, including the ability to communicate technicalinformation to non-technical collaborators.
2. Ability to work effectively both independently and in teamsettings.
3. Ability to self-manage and be managed in a variety of teamsettings and scenarios.

Work Location: Hybrid or remote work arrangements may be available for this position, based on operational needs and University guidelines.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Civil Service IT Tech Associate position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after September 28, 2026. Salary range is $80,000-90,000. This position is eligible for sponsorship for work authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that would incur the $100,000 fee.
