Job description

Position: Research Assistant II
Department: Research - GIM
Location: Boston, MA
Schedule: 20 hours per week, Hybrid
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Research Assistant II will coordinate and implement subject recruitment, enrollment, follow-up, data collection, and study conduct. Responsibilities include identifying and screening research subjects, recruiting and maintaining follow-up of research subjects, tracking absent (lost to follow) subjects, explaining and acquiring signatures of subjects for informed consent documents, data collection, database entry (including, but not limited to, data entry, transcription of qualitative questionnaires and coding of qualitative data), and participation in study meetings and performing other administrative tasks in support of the clinical studies.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Recruits and screens eligible participants for patient surveys and other research projects: identifies patients through electronic health record review, coordinates with clinic front-desk staff, approaches patients in obstetric, pediatric, and primary care clinics, conducts follow-up phone calls, and maintains an accurate recruitment tracker, following all study standard operating procedures.
  • Collects and manages study data: administers surveys in REDCap, monitors the response dashboard daily, schedules and conducts semi-structured key informant interviews, and coordinates audio-recording, transcription, and quality assurance of qualitative data.
  • Processes participant compensation accurately and promptly: issues and mails Clincard debit cards per the compensation protocol and reconciles payment records.
  • Supports analysis of quantitative and qualitative data: assists with data cleaning, descriptive analysis, and thematic coding, and synthesizes findings to support project progress.
  • Supports formation and engagement of stakeholder task groups: helps recruit patient and health-system leader members, schedules and staffs recurring meetings (agendas, minutes, materials, member compensation), and facilitates the consensus-building process.
  • Contributes to clinical protocol and implementation-plan development: gathers and summarizes relevant literature and external resources, drafts and revises documents, and documents adaptations.
  • Assists with study administration: maintains project records and handles routine project communication.
  • Develops polished deliverables: assists with first drafts and/or revisions of reports, presentations, posters, abstracts, and manuscripts.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION:
  • Bachelor's degree in related discipline is required.
  • Masters degree a plus.
  • With a Master's Degree, no work experience is required.

EXPERIENCE:
  • Minimum of 1+ years of experience in research or clinical program activities required.
  • Experience with recruiting subjects, with an understanding of the ethical and technical conduct of research.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Excellent English communication (oral and written) and interpersonal skills.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual skills (beyond that of English) appropriate to the patient population served is a plus.
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Access and PowerPoint. Experience with statistical analysis tools a plus.
  • Ability to perform basic data management tasks (coding, data entry, data cleaning, retrieval). Experience using quantitative data analysis software helpful (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Minitab).

Compensation Range:
$18.27- $25.72
This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However, our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive, and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer. This includes education, experience, skills, and certifications/licensures as they directly relate to position requirements; as well as business/organizational needs, internal equity, and market-competitiveness.
