What is a sprinter van driver?

Sprinter Van Drivers are professional drivers who operate Sprinter vans, which are large, versatile cargo or passenger vehicles commonly used for local deliveries, courier services, and transportation of goods or people. Their responsibilities typically include loading and unloading cargo, planning delivery routes, maintaining the vehicle, and ensuring timely and safe deliveries. Sprinter Van Drivers may work for delivery companies, logistics firms, or as independent contractors. The role requires a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record, and good organizational skills. Some positions may also require knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and customer service skills.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a sprinter van driver?

To thrive as a Sprinter Van Driver, you need a valid driver's license, a clean driving record, and good knowledge of safe driving practices and route navigation. Familiarity with GPS devices, route planning software, and electronic logging systems is often required. Reliability, punctuality, and strong customer service skills help drivers maintain schedules and build client trust. These abilities ensure the timely and safe delivery of goods while upholding company reputation and customer satisfaction.

What challenges do sprinter van drivers face, and how can they be managed?

Sprinter van drivers often encounter challenges such as navigating busy urban routes, meeting tight delivery schedules, and handling frequent loading and unloading. Staying organized and using route optimization tools can help manage time efficiently, while maintaining clear communication with dispatchers and customers ensures smooth operations. Sprinter Van Driving and Delivery Driver roles share similar credentials and work environments, focusing on transportation and delivery tasks. However, Sprinter Van Drivers often operate specific vans for courier services, while Delivery Drivers may handle a broader range of products, including food and retail items. Both roles are essential in logistics and e-commerce sectors, with overlapping skills and responsibilities.

Can you make good money driving a sprinter van?

Sprinter van drivers can earn competitive wages, often based on factors like experience, route, and hours worked. Many drivers supplement income through tips or bonuses, and having a commercial driver's license (CDL) can improve earning potential. Overall, it can be a profitable job for those with reliable routes and good driving records.

Do I need a CDL for a sprinter van?

Sprinter van driving typically does not require a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) if the vehicle's weight is under 26,001 pounds and it is used for non-commercial purposes. However, if the van exceeds this weight or is used for commercial freight, a CDL may be required depending on state and federal regulations. It's important to check local laws and specific job requirements for licensing needs.

Job description

Above and Beyond Delivery is a local Arizona delivery company supporting time-critical business-to-business operations throughout the Prescott/Prescott Valley area. Our team is built on people who show up, work hard, communicate early, and take pride in doing the job right. This role is best suited for drivers who want steady work, predictable routes, and a physically active day - not long-haul driving.

Please Read Before Applying!

We believe in being upfront, so there are no surprises after day one:

  • This is a physically active role with frequent stops and lifting
  • You will be in and out of the vehicle all day
  • You will be working outdoors in Arizona heat
  • Soreness is normal during the first week while your body adjusts
  • Routes and schedules are set and consistent, with limited flexibility

If you prefer a desk job, highly flexible scheduling, or minimal physical activity, this role is likely not a good fit for you.

Job Description:

As a Delivery Driver, you will operate an extended high roof Sprinter van to complete local business-to-business deliveries across the Prescott and Prescott Valley metro area. You'll be assigned designated routes, provided reliable equipment, and supported with modern in-truck technology to help you work safely and efficiently. Drivers who succeed here value consistency, professionalism, and steady improvement over rushing.

  • Complete scheduled business-to-business pickups and deliveries throughout the Prescott and Prescott Valley area
  • Load, unload, lift, and transport packages consistently throughout the shift
  • Use company issued mobile technology for routing, updates, and documentation
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections
  • Maintain delivery accuracy and on-time performance
  • Represent Above and Beyond Delivery with professionalism at all customer locations
  • Communicate delays, route issues, equipment concerns, or heat related fatigue promptly
  • Keep assigned vehicles clean, organized, and professional
  • Follow all company policies, safety standards, and DOT/insurance requirements

Work Schedule

  • Local routes - home daily
  • Routed schedules
  • Set start times
  • Overtime opportunities may be available based on volume

Training & Support

  • Paid onboarding and training
  • Coaching on route procedures, lifting techniques, and heat management
  • Supportive management with regular check-ins during the early weeks

Qualifications

  • 21+ years of age (insurance requirement)
  • Valid driver's license with clean MVR
  • Experience driving commercial vehicles, box trucks, or similar (preferred)
  • Comfortable using mobile apps, electronic routing tools, and email
  • Ability to repeatedly lift and/or push up to 50 lbs.
  • Comfortable working outdoors in heat and physically demanding conditions
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality
  • Able to work independently and follow structured processes
  • Strong communication and customer service mindset
  • Must pass background check and drug screen

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive pay based on experience
  • Paid Time Off (PTO)
  • Paid Holidays after 90 days
  • Medical, dental, vision, telemedicine, voluntary disability and life insurance (30+ hours/week)
  • 401(k) with employer contribution available after one year of service

Work Environment:

This is a local, delivery driver position serving businesses throughout the Prescott and Prescott Valley area. The pace is steady, the equipment is reliable, and teamwork matters. Our culture is built on going above and beyond - for customers, partners, and each other.

Other Duties:

This job description does not cover every task. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as business needs evolve. Drivers must be able to work effectively within a team environment.

Above and Beyond Delivery is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
