Part Time Emergency Veterinarian - The Regional Veterinary Referral Center

The Regional Veterinary Referral Center (RVRC) in Springfield, Virginia offers 24/7 emergency and critical care. The center serves the Midโ€‘Atlantic region and provides specialty services in cardiology, emergency/critical care, internal medicine, surgery, dermatology, neurology, radiation oncology, medical oncology, and rehabilitative medicine, supported by an inโ€‘house licensed veterinary physical therapist. Advanced diagnostics are available onโ€‘site, including Iโ€‘131 treatment, ultrasound, digital radiography, linear accelerator, CT, and MRI units.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct comprehensive patient exams and medical workโ€‘ups.
  • Communicate with clients and educate them on care plans.
  • Perform diagnostic procedures and surgery.
  • Maintain accurate medical records.
  • Prescribe medications and follow controlled substance protocols.
  • Promote teamwork and staff efficiency.
  • Collaborate with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations.
  • Evaluate and monitor daily hospital protocols from intake to discharge.
  • Monitor hospital cases and attend daily rounds when possible to ensure high standards.
  • Participate in practice management updates and training at all levels.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Management.
Qualifications (Required)
  • Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited institution.
  • Current State Veterinary License.
  • DEA registration.
  • At least 1 year of experience in emergency practice.
  • Strong diagnostic and clinical skills.
  • Excellent surgical and dental skills.
  • Teamโ€‘oriented work style.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Commitment to compassionate, highโ€‘quality veterinary care.
  • Client communication skills, including rapport building and clear explanation of treatment options.
  • Confidence and reassurance in handling stressed, ill, or painful pets.
  • Physical ability to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Demonstrated clinical knowledge in cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological, and other essential examinations.

Pay Range

$150,000 โ€” $185,000 USD (fullโ€‘time equivalent). Compensation for partโ€‘time roles is prorated based on experience and hours/shifts worked.
