Job description

Job Summary


The Manufacturing Specialist – Spray is responsible for performing and supporting all paint application processes across water borne, solvent borne, and powder spray technologies.


This role ensures high quality coating application, accurate material usage, consistent productivity, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.


The Specialist performs film build measurement, operates and adjusts spray equipment, completes documentation, supports troubleshooting, and collaborates with Quality, Maintenance, and Operations to maintain stable, efficient coating processes.


The individual will also participate in continuous improvement initiatives, train Operators, and ensure production meets customer and internal performance expectations.


Key Responsibilities

· Lead and support spray‐application activities across multiple technologies.

o Spray Application

o Roll Coat primer application

o Draw down application for top-coats and Primers

o Powder Application (Spray and Conveyor)

· Perform film‐build measurement using calibrated instruments.

· Conduct spray audits including oven and temperature verification.

· Set, operate, and adjust spray‐mation programming.

· Identify coating defects and perform quality checks.

o Visual Inspections

o Elcometer Film Builds

o Gloss Levels

o Orange Peel (Wave Scan)

o Hunter Lab Color measurements

· Complete all Work Order Traveler requirements and usage documentation.

· Ensure environmental compliance by monitoring and reporting solvent usage

· Maintain and clean spray guns, equipment, and booths.

· Train Operators and support 5S.


Continuous Improvement

· Track and support improvements in spray process stability, film‐build accuracy, and coating consistency.

· Improve booth productivity and OEE.

· Reduce defects and enhance first pass quality.

· Collaborate with Quality and Operations to enhance safety and compliance.


Qualifications

· High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training preferred.

· Powder Coating experience required

· Proficiency in spray application fundamentals and measurement tools.

· Ability to read Item Descriptions, Work Orders, and TDS documents.

· Understanding of water‐borne and solvent‐borne differences.

· Effective communication and teamwork skills.

· Ability to meet productivity and quality requirements.


Preferred Qualifications

· Prior experience in a laboratory environment

· Prior experience as a paint technician

· Basic understanding of paint chemistry
