Spotify Developer information

What is a Spotify developer?

A Spotify Developer is a software engineer or programmer who builds applications, integrations, or tools that interact with Spotify’s platform using its APIs and SDKs. These developers create features such as custom playlists, music recommendations, data visualizations, or integrations with other apps and devices. They often use programming languages like JavaScript, Python, or Java, and leverage Spotify's Web API, Playback SDK, and other resources to access music data, user profiles, and playback controls. Spotify Developers can work independently, as part of startups, or within larger organizations to enhance the Spotify user experience or provide unique functionalities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Spotify developer?

To succeed as a Spotify Developer, you need strong programming skills in languages like JavaScript or Python, experience with RESTful APIs, and a solid understanding of music streaming platforms. Familiarity with Spotify's Web API, OAuth authentication, and development tools such as Node.js or React is typically required. Creative problem-solving, attention to detail, and effective communication help developers build engaging, user-friendly applications that integrate with Spotify. These skills ensure seamless technical integration and innovative user experiences that leverage Spotify's vast music ecosystem.

How does a Spotify developer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver new features or improvements?

As a Spotify Developer, you’ll frequently work alongside product managers, designers, and data engineers to bring new features or enhancements to the Spotify platform. Collaboration often involves participating in agile sprints, attending regular stand-up meetings, and conducting code reviews with peers. Clear communication and an understanding of user needs are essential, as you’ll need to translate product requirements into scalable, maintainable code. You may also work closely with QA engineers to test new releases and ensure a seamless listening experience for users.

What is the difference between Spotify Developer vs Music App Developer?

Job description

We are Lennar
Lennar is one of the nation's leading homebuilders, dedicated to making an impact and creating an extraordinary experience for their Homeowners, Communities, and Associates by building quality homes and providing exceptional customer service, giving back to the communities in which we work and live in, and fostering a culture of opportunity and growth for our Associates throughout their career. Lennar has been recognized as a Fortune 500® company and consistently ranked among the top homebuilders in the United States.
A Career that Empowers You to Build Your Future
Join Cloud Engineering as the Engineering Manager for the Developer Experience (DevEx) team, the group that builds and operates the Internal Developer Platform (IDP) used by every engineering team at Lennar. You will lead a team of engineers who own the Spotify Portal (built on Backstage), the CI/CD workflow library, GitHub Enterprise administration, HCP Terraform, and application security tooling. In this role, you will set the team's technical direction, champion good software engineering practices across the organization, and own the platform roadmap that shapes how productively engineers across Lennar build and ship software.
Your Responsibilities on the Team
  • Lead and develop a team of Developer Experience engineers, setting technical standards, coaching engineers across seniority levels, and building a team culture with high standards for code quality and a strong InnerSource contribution ethic.
  • Own the strategic roadmap for Lennar's Spotify Portal, the internal developer platform every engineering team uses to scaffold, catalog, and operate their services; prioritize investments in templates, plugins, and platform capabilities that reduce friction and accelerate delivery across the organization.
  • Drive platform adoption across all Lennar Technology Group domains; ensure teams are onboarded to the golden-path templates, CI/CD workflows, and platform standards that DevEx maintains.
  • Lead the GitHub Enterprise administration strategy for Lennar's engineering organization, including org governance, access provisioning, and enterprise policies.
  • Oversee the reusable GitHub Actions CI/CD workflow library that powers every Portal-scaffolded service; set quality gates, security scanning, and deployment standards so teams inherit best practices without configuring them from scratch.
  • Govern the HCP Terraform platform: workspace provisioning, module registry, and no-code module infrastructure; drive the standards work that eliminates toil, reduces support burden, and gives application teams a reliable self-service path to cloud infrastructure.
  • Lead the application security tooling strategy: drive the GitHub Advanced Security (GHAS) rollout as the standard AppSec platform, consolidate and rationalize code scanning tooling, and ensure security scanning is embedded in every CI/CD pipeline through the shared workflow library.
  • Champion Lennar's InnerSource model by growing the contributor community around the portal, templates, plugins, and CI/CD workflows; define contribution standards, maintain the governance framework, and serve as leadership sponsor for the Cloud Contributors program.
  • Define and track DORA metrics, developer productivity KPIs, and platform health signals through the DevEx Metrics dashboard; quantify the value of platform investments.
  • Communicate platform and infrastructure work clearly to executive and non-technical audiences, covering tradeoffs, investment rationale, and risks so stakeholders can make informed decisions.
  • Establish and continuously improve the team's operating cadence: sprint planning, retrospectives, platform reviews, documentation standards, and support rotations. Build the processes that let the team scale its platform portfolio without degrading quality or response time.
  • Manage vendor relationships for the DevEx toolchain, including Spotify, GitHub, HashiCorp/HCP, and others, covering contract renewals, license management, and procurement decisions aligned with engineering strategy.
  • Represent Developer Experience in architecture reviews, incident retrospectives, and cross-functional planning forums; ensure DevEx roadmap investments are visible and understood at the Cloud Engineering leadership level.
  • Recruit, develop, and retain strong DevEx engineering talent, covering hiring decisions, leveling, performance management, and career progression for direct reports; build a team culture that attracts engineers who care about developer productivity.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3 years in a people management role leading DevOps or Developer Experience teams.
  • Proven track record managing DevOps or Developer Experience teams responsible for shared tooling, CI/CD platforms, and internal developer platforms, with direct ownership of the platform roadmap and adoption strategy.
  • Deep familiarity with Internal Developer Portal (IDP) concepts and platforms; hands-on experience with Backstage or Spotify Portal preferred, including software templates, service catalog design, and plugin architecture.
  • Strong understanding of good software engineering practices: code quality, testing standards, trunk-based development, CI/CD pipeline design, security scanning, and the developer workflows that enable teams to ship reliably.
  • Proven track record of leadership in Agile environments, with excellent communication and collaboration skills, and a passion for mentoring and empowering team members.
  • Solid knowledge of GitHub Enterprise Cloud administration: org governance, SSO/SCIM, branch protection policies, GitHub Actions, and GitHub Advanced Security.
  • Working knowledge of HashiCorp tooling: Terraform for infrastructure as code and HCP Terraform workspace management.
  • Familiarity with AWS services relevant to a developer platform: IAM, SSM Parameter Store, ECR, EKS, Lambda, and CodeArtifact.
  • Experience owning and communicating an engineering roadmap: translating OKRs into quarterly goals, managing competing stakeholder demands, and making the case for platform investments to senior leadership.
  • Track record of driving adoption of shared developer platforms across a multi-team engineering organization, with measurable reduction in developer friction or support overhead.
  • Familiarity with DORA metrics and how to use developer productivity data to guide platform investment decisions and demonstrate team value.
  • Strong communication skills; able to represent platform decisions in architecture reviews and articulate technical tradeoffs clearly to non-technical leaders.

  • Bonus: Hands-on experience building Backstage plugins or custom scaffolder actions; experience with InnerSource or open-source community governance; familiarity with AppSec tooling lifecycles including GHAS, Dependabot, or CodeQL; experience in a large distributed engineering organization (500+ engineers) where platform standardization at scale was a central challenge.
