Job Description:
Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director for SDA Nutrition, assist with daily Sports Nutrition Department operations to enhance the planning, implementation, and management of sports nutrition programming for student-athletes. Adheres to NCAA and Big-12 rules and regulations, as well as Arizona Board of Regents, University, and Athletic Department policies and procedures.
Position Salary Range:
  • $27 per hour

Essential Duties:
  • Participate in a competency-based learning opportunity intended to develop sports nutrition knowledge and skills.
  • Engage with mentorship as part of the SDA Nutrition team.
  • Serve as sports dietitian and primary point of SDA Nutrition Department contact for assigned teams.
  • Responsible for developing and implementing creative and evidence-based sports nutrition education plans for assigned teams.
  • Maintain clinic hours for individual student-athlete nutrition appointments to assess and counsel on optimal nutrition for training, competition, recovery, hydration, immunity, travel, weight and body composition management, bone health, nutrient deficiencies, digestive health, diabetes, and more, and document within the electronic medical record.
  • Perform body composition assessments, review nutritional supplements for safety, efficacy, and banned substances, and counsel student-athletes based on department philosophies.
  • Assist with menu planning for team and department-provided meals, actively participate in meal monitoring and education with student-athletes.
  • Participate in scheduled operation of departmental nutrition bars (fueling stations), including creating and implementing education material, maintaining food safety standards, and assisting with administrative tasks such as product ordering, inventory, receiving, budget tracking.
  • Assist with managing student intern staff and scheduling.
  • Maintain professional competency and skills required for a high level of professional practice.
  • Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, Big-12, and institution rules and regulations.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director for SDA Nutrition.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Evidence of a Master's Degree in nutrition, dietetics, or other related field from an accredited university or college.
  • Evidence of being a registered Dietitian (RD) or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) with active status through the Commission on Dietetic Registration (REQUIRED).
  • Must possess a valid card or certificate issued by an ANSI-accredited food handler training program (such as ServSafe Food Handler) (REQUIRED).
  • Minimum of one year of related experience in a sports nutrition setting.
  • At least 6 months of related experience in a collegiate athletic program.
  • Evidence of effective interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
  • Experience in using organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Experience in prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment and working efficiently and independently.
  • Experience in using Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in working a non-standard schedule, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.

Working Environment:
  • Activities are performed in an environmentally-controlled setting at the Carson Student-Athlete Center, Sun Devil Sports Performance, and Student-Athlete Facility.
  • The position is subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing.
  • Use of keyboard, computer mouse, general office machines, and handwriting tools.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds.
  • The job requires the ability to clearly communicate to perform essential functions.
