Who are we hiring?
The Kansas City Current is seeking an Assistant Coordinator, Sports Turf & Grounds for The University of Kansas Health System (TUKHS) Training Center. This entry-level position supports the maintenance and upkeep of the training grounds and surrounding landscape areas. The role is ideal for candidates who enjoy hands-on outdoor work, are comfortable working in all weather conditions, and can accommodate a flexible schedule that includes early mornings and some evenings, weekends, and holidays, while helping maintain world-class training grounds.
What will you do?
Sports Turf Maintenance Tasks:
  • Pitch mowing
  • Pitch preparation (painting, goal set up, line striping, etc)
  • Tractor operation
  • Pedestrian mowing / verticutting / brushing

Grounds Maintenance Tasks:
  • Landscape mowing
  • Weed eating and edging
  • Mulching
  • Debris blowing

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Work in a team manner with other full-time & part-time Sports Turf & Grounds staff, along with staff across the entire organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the KC Current's mission to become the best women's soccer club in the world

What do you need to succeed?
  • Interest in sports turf, landscaping, groundskeeping, or outdoor facility maintenance.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to perform physically demanding outdoor work.
  • Ability and willingness to learn and safely operate landscaping and grounds maintenance equipment.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Positive attitude with a willingness to take direction and learn new skills.
  • Ability to follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
  • Must be able to work outdoors year-round in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight.
  • Previous experience in landscaping, lawn care, groundskeeping, agriculture, construction, or related outdoor work is preferred but not required.
  • Ability and willingness to work a flexible schedule, including early mornings and some evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.

Special requirements of the Job:

  • Must be able to stand, walk, and move around the venue for extended periods of time, often during events or facility setup and breakdown.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed for event setup, equipment management, or assisting with operational needs.
  • Requires occasional bending, squatting, and reaching overhead to handle various tasks related to facility management, equipment, and event preparation.
  • Must be capable of working in physically demanding environments, including navigating stairs, ramps, and elevated platforms during venue conversions.
