Job description

Location: Boston, MA | Hybrid, 3 days per week in our Boston office
Build the technology behind elite sporting performance.
At Catapult, we are building the future of sports performance technology, with a mission to Unleash the Potential of every athlete and team on earth.
Since 2006, our technology has helped shape the world of sports performance software, science and data. Today, our solutions are used by more than 5,000 teams around the world, including organisations across the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLS, EPL, AFL, NRL, NCAA and many more.
Our technology brings together wearable data, digital video and athlete information to help coaches, sports scientists, performance staff and athletes understand what is happening, make better decisions and improve performance.
We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer with strong Golang experience to join our engineering team in Boston and help build the next generation of our cloud platform.
This is a hands-on engineering role where you will work with Golang, distributed systems, AWS, APIs and data to build scalable services used by some of the world's leading sporting organisations.
If you enjoy solving complex engineering problems, taking ownership of systems and seeing your work have a real impact, this is an opportunity to do that while working alongside a great engineering team in Boston.
The opportunity
You will play a key role in planning, designing, building and testing features for our next-generation cloud platform.
Our platform combines digital video, wearable data and athlete information to provide insights and analytics to coaches, support staff, sports scientists and athletes. The systems you build will help customers make informed decisions about athlete health, readiness and performance.
Golang is essential to this role. You will design, build and maintain production-grade Go services as part of a growing backend platform.
You will have ownership across the development lifecycle, from understanding the problem and contributing to technical design through to implementation, testing, deployment and ongoing improvement.
You will work on a range of engineering challenges across distributed services, APIs, cloud infrastructure, data platforms, authentication, authorisation, entitlements and licensing.
We are looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, is comfortable making technical decisions and wants to have a meaningful influence on both the software we build and how we build it.
What you'll do
  • Design, build and maintain scalable, reliable and maintainable services in Golang
  • Contribute to the architecture and technical direction of our cloud platform
  • Take ownership of services and features from planning and design through to production
  • Solve complex engineering problems across distributed systems, APIs, data and cloud infrastructure
  • Help drive code quality, engineering standards and best practices across the development lifecycle
  • Participate in technical design discussions, architecture reviews and code reviews
  • Contribute to our test strategy and write high-quality automated tests
  • Improve automation and engineering processes to support reliable and efficient delivery
  • Work closely with engineers and other teams to understand customer needs and develop effective technical solutions
  • Identify opportunities to improve our systems, processes and developer productivity
  • Share knowledge and contribute to the development of the wider engineering team
  • Take ownership of problems and outcomes while working collaboratively with colleagues across our global organisation
What you'll bring
Essential
  • Strong professional experience with Golang
  • 5+ years' recent experience delivering multiple scalable services into production
  • Experience designing, building and operating production-grade backend services
  • Experience working with cloud-based and distributed systems
  • Experience with AWS, ideally including ECS, EC2, Lambda, SNS and SQS
  • Working knowledge of containerisation
  • Experience with CI/CD automation and modern software delivery practices
  • Working knowledge of REST, GraphQL and/or gRPC
  • Experience working with databases such as Postgres and/or MongoDB
  • A strong understanding of software engineering fundamentals, including testing, reliability, maintainability and code quality
  • A willingness to take ownership, contribute ideas and continuously improve

It would be great if you also have
  • Experience working with high-volume data platforms or distributed data systems
  • Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging systems
  • Experience with authentication, authorisation, identity or entitlement systems
  • Experience building systems that operate across cloud and edge environments
  • Experience working with video, telemetry, sensor or time-series data
  • Experience in a high-growth product or SaaS environment
  • An interest in sports, performance technology or data

You do not need to be a sports expert to be successful at Catapult. We are looking for great engineers who are interested in the problems we are solving.
What success looks like
In 6 months
You will have a strong understanding of our platform, architecture and engineering practices and will be confidently owning one or more Go microservices.
You will be shipping production changes across our backend services and contributing to areas such as our unified entitlement and licensing system, distributed data platform and authentication systems.
You will also have built strong relationships with the engineering team in Boston and colleagues across our global engineering organisation.
In 12 months
You will be leading the architectural design of a significant subsystem, taking a problem from initial design through to production across our Go service estate.
You will be contributing to how we evolve our federation patterns, offline-first edge architecture, data and entitlement models, as well as the APIs and services that support our client applications and third-party integrations.
You will be a trusted senior technical contributor who delivers high-quality software, takes ownership of complex problems and helps raise the engineering capability of the wider team.
Why Catapult?
Work on technology that has an impact
The systems you build will be used by some of the world's leading sporting organisations.
Our technology helps teams understand athlete performance, monitor workload and readiness, analyse video and make better decisions. Your work can directly contribute to how athletes train, prepare and perform.
Work on interesting engineering problems
We are bringing together video, wearable data, athlete information and analytics into a platform used by thousands of teams around the world.
That means solving challenging problems across distributed systems, cloud architecture, data, APIs, performance and reliability.
Work with a great team in Boston
This role is based in our Boston office, with the team working together in person three days per week.
You will work alongside an experienced and collaborative engineering team where you can share ideas, solve problems together and learn from the people around you.
You will also work with colleagues across a global organisation spanning more than 20 countries, giving you the opportunity to collaborate with people from different backgrounds and areas of expertise.
Grow your career
We value people who want to improve themselves, their teams and the technology they work on.
As a senior engineer, you will have the opportunity to take increasing ownership of technical decisions, contribute to architecture and help shape the direction of our platform.
We encourage open communication, constructive challenge and a practical approach to continuous improvement.
Whether you are passionate about sport or simply enjoy building great software, you will have the opportunity to work on technology that is used by some of the most successful teams and athletes in the world.
Compensation & Benefits
The target Total Compensation range for this position is $112,934 to $225,868 per year.
This range is inclusive of base salary and a target incentive plan, which may include equity, commission or other bonus structures. Your specific compensation within the range will be determined by factors including geographic location, relevant experience and job-related skills.
Catapult also offers:
  • Generous paid leave and recognised company holidays
  • Health, dental and vision insurance
  • 401(k) retirement plan with company match
  • Comprehensive benefits package
We'd love to hear from you
You do not need to meet every single requirement to apply.
We know that great candidates can come from different backgrounds and may not have experience with every technology listed above. If you have strong Golang experience, enjoy building scalable services and want to work on challenging problems with a great engineering team, we would love to hear from you.
Whether you are interested in sports or not, you will have the opportunity to build software that supports some of the world's best teams and athletes.
Join Catapult and help us Unleash the Potential.
