Position Summary
The Assistant Sports Performance Coach develops and administers the strength and conditioning program for assigned sports (Women's Basketball and Swimming), teaches safe lifting and movement technique, and supervises all assigned weight room and conditioning sessions in line with departmental philosophy and methodology. Daily responsibilities include warm-up implementation, physical monitoring, speed and agility development, recovery sessions, and athlete testing and evaluation, as well as partnering with sports medicine on return-to-play. The position may also support athlete and coaching staff education in areas such as physical stress, lifestyle management, nutrition, and general health and wellness.
Reporting to the Senior Associate Athletic Director for Sports Performance, this position assists in maintaining compliance with all NCAA, University, and Division regulations and contributes to the continued growth of the intercollegiate strength and conditioning program. Working within the Pioneer Health and Performance umbrella, the coach promotes a team-based approach to performance, health, wellness, and sport psychology services, and models a positive coaching philosophy grounded in respect and constructive communication.
Essential Functions
- Program design and implementation. Supervise strength and conditioning program design for all 17 sport programs and develop customized training programs for individual student-athletes.
- Growth of the program and professional expertise. Contribute to the continual growth and development of the University's intercollegiate strength and conditioning program; maintain a current knowledge base in weight training, cardiovascular conditioning, speed training, and nutrition; and represent the Athletics Department and University in public relations capacities as requested.
- Facility and administrative management. Supervise the Varsity Athletic weight training facility and its use within department policies and procedures; assist with budgeting, ordering, and inventory control; and compile relevant statistical information related to strength and conditioning programs.
- Team conditioning and athlete development. Oversee the physical conditioning of each team, including strength, speed, flexibility, and endurance, and actively develop student-athletes' awareness and knowledge of proper strength training techniques.
- Sports medicine collaboration and risk management. Work directly with the Sports Medicine Department to facilitate progressive rehabilitation for student-athletes and ensure compliance with University risk management policies and procedures.
- Additional administrative responsibilities. Additional administrative responsibilities may be allocated based upon expertise and experience. Responsibilities may include oversight/mentorship of professional interns, Sports Performance Fellows, fueling station budgeting/stocking and/or departmental ordering.

- Bachelor's degree
- One year experience as a strength coach in a collegiate setting as a full time employee or graduate assistant.
- CSCS certification with the NSCA or SCCC certification with the CSCCa (required)
- Must possess knowledge in the areas of strength and conditioning and have exceptional communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in related field
- 3 years experience

- Ability to sit in front of a computer for an extended period.

Salary Range:
The salary range for this position is $60,000-$65,000.
