POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Association Sports Director and consistent with the Christian Mission of the YMCA, the sports staff will be responsible for the implementation of each seasonal sport.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Prepares and distributes sports flyers to all participants and around to different schools as needed.
  • Assists with field preparation for practices and games. To include, but not limited to,painting of fields, trash pick-up, refereeing, coaching, talking with parents, etc.
  • Attend staff meetings as scheduled.
  • Understand emergency procedures and know what to do in the event of an injury.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Follow all guidelines set by the Gaston County Family YMCA as it relates to program standards and our rules for each sport.
  • Maintains a safe, clean, and organized sports department.
  • Addresses member complaints with the Y voice of welcoming, nurturing, hopeful, determined and genuine.
  • Completes other duties assigned by the Director.
  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and on an annual basis.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be at least 16 years of age or older.

Experience of participation in sports at some level is preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
  • Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
  • Must be able to lift and carry equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
