Position Summary
The Director of REPS Training & Baseball/Softball Development is responsible for leading, developing, and growing our athlete development business across baseball, softball, sports performance, and arm care.
At the center of this role is REPS, our membership-based athlete development program. The Director will own the quality, growth, and financial performance of REPS while also leading the growth of our broader baseball and softball training business, including camps, clinics, private lessons, sports performance, and arm care.
This is a hands-on leadership position combining program development, coaching leadership, athlete development, customer experience, community engagement, and business growth.
Success will be measured not only by the quality of our training and athlete experience, but also by participation, retention, revenue growth, coach development, and the overall financial performance of the training business.
About the REPS Program
REPS is our membership-based baseball and softball athlete development program designed to provide athletes with consistent, ongoing training rather than relying exclusively on individual lessons or occasional camps and clinics.
Members have access to a recurring schedule of instructor-led training opportunities focused on the core areas of player development, including:
- Hitting
- Pitching
- Fielding
- Sports performance
- Strength, speed, mobility, and movement
- Arm care and throwing development
The REPS model is built around frequency, repetition, quality instruction, and long-term athlete development. Rather than treating each training session as an isolated event, REPS should provide athletes with a structured development pathway that allows them to train consistently, build skills over time, and receive coaching within an integrated program.
REPS is also intended to serve as the foundation of our broader training ecosystem. Camps, clinics, private lessons, sports performance, and arm care should complement the membership program and provide athletes with multiple ways to engage with our coaches and continue their development.
Our goal is to build REPS into a differentiated athlete-development platform that delivers meaningful value to athletes and families while creating a strong recurring-revenue foundation for the business.
Key Responsibilities:
REPS Program Leadership
Own the overall performance, growth, and continued development of the REPS membership program.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and maintain a structured REPS training curriculum across baseball, softball, sports performance, and arm care.
- Establish clear athlete-development pathways by age and skill level.
- Define what athletes should be learning and accomplishing as they progress through the program.
- Create programming that delivers a consistent, high-quality experience across coaches and classes.
- Personally lead and coach REPS training sessions.
- Evaluate program effectiveness and continually improve curriculum and class structure.
- Establish appropriate class schedules based on membership demand and utilization.
- Monitor class attendance, athlete engagement, and coach-to-athlete ratios.
- Build an environment that athletes and families view as a premier development program rather than simply a collection of training sessions.
Coach Leadership & Development
Build and lead a high-performing coaching team capable of consistently delivering the REPS methodology.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruit, onboard, train, and develop coaches.
- Establish clear coaching standards and expectations.
- Train coaches on REPS curriculum and athlete-development philosophy.
- Observe and evaluate coaches regularly.
- Provide feedback and ongoing professional development.
- Ensure consistency in instruction and customer experience regardless of which coach leads a session.
- Hold coaches accountable for performance, professionalism, athlete engagement, and program standards.
Membership Growth & Retention
Own the growth and retention of the REPS membership base.
Responsibilities include:
- Actively promote and grow REPS memberships.
- Develop relationships with athletes, parents, coaches, teams, and organizations.
- Create pathways for athletes participating in lessons, camps, clinics, and other programs to become long-term REPS members.
- Follow up with prospective members and families.
- Monitor member engagement and identify athletes at risk of leaving the program.
- Build a strong community and culture that drives referrals and long-term retention.
- Partner with leadership on marketing and promotional initiatives designed to increase membership.
Camps & Clinics
Own the development and growth of baseball and softball camps and clinics.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop an annual calendar of camps and clinics.
- Create compelling programming based on athlete and market demand.
- Develop curriculum and staffing plans for each program.
- Recruit athletes and actively drive registrations.
- Ensure programs meet participation and financial expectations.
- Evaluate results following each camp or clinic and adjust future programming accordingly.
- Develop specialty programs that create additional revenue opportunities throughout the year.
Private Lesson Business
Grow and develop the baseball and softball private lesson business.
Responsibilities include:
- Recruit and develop high-quality instructors.
- Increase awareness and utilization of private lessons.
- Connect athletes with appropriate instructors based on development needs.
- Create stronger integration between private lessons and the REPS membership program.
- Monitor instructor utilization, lesson volume, and revenue.
- Identify opportunities to expand lesson offerings and improve customer retention.
Sports Performance & Arm Care
Develop sports performance and arm care into meaningful components of the overall athlete-development business.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop age-appropriate sports performance programming.
- Establish structured arm care and throwing-development programs.
- Integrate strength, speed, mobility, recovery, and arm health into the REPS development model where appropriate.
- Ensure programming reflects current athlete-development and safety standards.
- Train coaches to deliver programs consistently.
- Identify opportunities for standalone sports performance and arm care programs that generate incremental participation and revenue.
Business & Financial Accountability
This position carries direct responsibility for the growth and financial performance of the training business.
The Director will work with leadership to establish annual and quarterly goals and will be expected to manage performance against those goals.
Key areas of accountability include:
- REPS membership and membership revenue
- New member acquisition
- Member retention
- Class attendance and utilization
- Camps and clinics participation and revenue
- Private lesson volume and revenue
- Sports performance participation and revenue
- Arm care participation and revenue
- Coaching payroll and labor efficiency
- Overall training-business revenue and profitability
The Director should understand that program quality and financial performance are interconnected. Better programming, coaching, and athlete experiences should translate into stronger retention, referrals, participation, and revenue.
Leadership Expectations
The Director is expected to operate as an owner of the business area, not simply as a coach or program administrator.
This means:
- Taking responsibility for results.
- Identifying problems and opportunities proactively.
- Being highly visible and engaged with athletes and families.
- Building relationships throughout the local baseball and softball community.
- Developing coaches rather than simply filling coaching shifts.
- Understanding the financial performance of the business.
- Using data to make decisions about scheduling, staffing, programming, and growth.
- Communicating clearly with senior leadership regarding performance, challenges, and opportunities.
- Bringing ideas forward and executing against agreed-upon priorities.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Significant baseball and/or softball coaching and athlete-development experience.
- Strong understanding of hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing development, and overall player development.
- Experience developing structured training programs or curriculum.
- Experience leading and developing coaches.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to build relationships with athletes, parents, coaches, teams, and organizations.
- Strong organizational and program-management skills.
- A demonstrated ability or strong aptitude for growing participation and revenue.
- Understanding of youth sports programming and customer experience.
- Ability to balance coaching responsibilities with business leadership responsibilities.
- Experience with sports performance, strength and conditioning, or arm care programming is highly desirable.
