Who We Are Looking For:
Populous is seeking an Architectural 3D Designer to provide ‘real time’ architectural models and interactive virtual environments.
Our preferred candidate will have prior experience in the AEC industry, and an interest in working in a dynamic global design environment with a diverse range of public assembly building types, including sports venues, convention centers, community buildings, and transportation facilities.
What Your Day Could Consist Of:
  • Developing, refining, and maintaining 3D architectural and interior models from drawings, design models, sketches, and reference materials.
  • Preparing and optimizing models between platforms such as Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, 3ds Max and other 3D applications.
  • Creating and applying architectural materials, textures and accurate material mapping for interior and exterior environments.
  • Modeling architectural components, interiors, furniture, fixtures, site elements and other project-specific assets.
  • Working with Architecture and Interiors teams to develop models that accurately represent design intent.
  • Creating navigable real-time 3D models and walkthrough environments for design reviews and presentations, using appropriate visualization software.
  • Producing still images and model views as needed to support the design and presentation process.
Requirements For Success:
  • Strong 3D modeling skills with an understanding of architectural and interior spaces, scale, proportion, and detailing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of fundamentals of 3D modeling, texturing amp; lighting.
  • Skilled in the process of creating photo-realistic visualizations of architectural models amp; environments using traditional arch-viz workflows.
  • Post-processing ability in Photoshop and After Effects is essential and post-processing ability in systems similar to Nuke / Davinci is preferred.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, elevations, sections, and design documentation.
  • Strong knowledge of model organization, geometry cleanup, optimization, UV mapping, materials, textures, and lighting.
  • Ability to create realistic architectural materials and accurately map them to 3D geometry.
  • Detail-oriented, learns quickly and adapts to new responsibilities.
  • Highly self-motivated and capable of thriving in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment.
  • Outstanding communication skills and team-oriented mindset that encourages effective collaboration in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Awareness of emerging technologies, such as augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and their potential applications for architectural presentations is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Blueprint scripting, procedural content generation (PCG), or programming in Python or C++ is a plus.
  • Familiarity with plugins Forest Pack amp; RailClone in 3ds Max is a plus.
  • Familiarity with material creation using Substance Painter, Sampler, and Designer is a plus.
Essential Qualifications:
Required:
  • Degree or relevant experience in architecture, interior design, architectural visualization, 3D design or a related field.
  • Proven experience developing 3D models for architectural or interior design projects.
  • Experience with applications such as Revit, Rhino, SketchUp, 3ds Max, or similar 3D modeling software.
  • Fluency in spoken and written English is required because the employee will communicate daily with English-speaking clients, consultants and project teams located outside Quebec.
Preferred:
  • 2+ years’ experience with real-time visualization tools such as Unreal Engine, Enscape, Twinmotion, D5, or similar platforms.
