Job description

Product Specialist (Sports Cards)

Company: SMR Collectibles

Location: Amityville, NY (100% On-Site / Open Warehouse Environment)

Position Type: Full-time, In-Person

Compensation: $20.00–$25.00 per hour (Depending on experience and hobby knowledge)

Benefits: 401(k), Paid Time Off (PTO)

About Us

SMR Collectibles is a high-volume, rapidly expanding force in the sports cards and memorabilia industry. As an elite authorized dealer for leading grading services (PSA, CGC, and JSA), we manage thousands of high-value items weekly across major online marketplaces, live-streamed selling platforms, and national trade shows.

We are looking for a hands-on Card Acquisitions & Processing Specialist to join our production team. This is a role for a true "card person", someone who knows the difference between a base card and a short print, understands the nuances of centering, and brings deep knowledge of the hobby straight to our processing pipeline.

The Role

This is the ultimate position for an enthusiast who wants to turn their passion for trading cards into a professional career. You will be working right in the thick of our open, high-energy warehouse environment, handling massive volumes of raw and graded inventory daily. Because you are the first line of defense in identifying value, raw condition, and set data, your precision and product knowledge will directly impact our bottom line.

Responsibilities

  • Conditioning & Grading Assessment: Accurately identify and sort raw cards by year, set, parallel, and variation. Use your hobby expertise to meticulously inspect surfaces, corners, edges, and centering to determine if cards are viable candidates for third-party grading (PSA, BGS, SGC, CGC).

  • Protection & Preservation Prep: Handle high-value raw singles and collections with absolute care. Ensure proper penny-sleeving, top-loading, or semi-rigid placement to keep cards flawless for long-term storage or listing.

  • Meticulous Inventory Cataloging: Enter highly specific details (player, team, set name, card number, serial numbering, attribute variations, and condition) into our database and listing tools to ensure every single entry is 100% accurate before going live.

  • Warehouse Inventory Flow: Keep our active warehouse organized by securely moving processed batches to designated photography stations, vault storage, or live-sale holding areas.

  • Quality Control Verification: Cross-reference final listings to verify that the digital photographs match the exact physical card attributes, serial numbers, and condition descriptions before publication.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Experience Range: 0–2 years of professional experience, but a lifetime of hobby knowledge. While 1–2 years of experience in a commercial sports card buying, selling, or consignment capacity is highly preferred, a deep personal understanding of the modern and vintage card landscape is what matters most.

  • Deep Product Knowledge: Must have a strong foundational understanding of sports cards, sets, brands (Topps, Panini, Upper Deck, Bowman), and memorabilia.

  • Education & Logistical Requirements: High School Diploma (minimum required) and reliable transportation to and from our Amityville location.

  • Focus & Grit: Must be highly productive, self-motivated, and comfortable working efficiently in an active, open warehouse setting.

  • Extreme Attention to Detail: Spotting micro-scratches, soft corners, or print lines should be second nature to you.
