What is a sports bar?

A sports bar is a type of bar or restaurant that features multiple televisions broadcasting live sports events, creating a lively environment for fans to watch games together. These establishments typically serve food and beverages, including alcoholic drinks, and may offer activities like pool, darts, or arcade games. Sports bars are popular gathering spots for groups and often host events or promotions during major sporting events to attract customers.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a sports bar manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Sports Bar Manager, you need experience in hospitality management, knowledge of food and beverage operations, and often a relevant degree or certification in hospitality or business. Familiarity with POS systems, inventory management software, and health and safety regulations is essential. Strong leadership, problem-solving, and customer service skills help in managing staff and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere. These skills are critical for efficient operations, guest satisfaction, and driving business success in a dynamic environment.

What are some common challenges faced when working at a sports bar, and how can employees effectively handle them?

Working at a sports bar can be fast-paced, especially during major games or events when crowds are large and customer demands increase. Many sports bars provide training on conflict resolution and teamwork to help employees navigate these situations smoothly.

Job description

Every time a customer opens Prime Video during Thursday Night Football or an NBA game, dozens of systems have to publish the right broadcast, the right metadata, and the right test coverage behind the scenes before that stream ever reaches a screen. The Referee team builds the tooling that catches problems before customers do. Last year alone, our systems ran 350 million metadata verifications and tracked 34 million live event publishes end to end - work that would otherwise fall to a much larger team of manual operators.
Want to help make sure Prime Video Sports launches flawlessly every time a customer tunes in to the NFL, NBA, and more? Passionate about building the tools and processes that enable engineering teams to test complex partner integrations with confidence before they ever reach a customer? Looking forward to working in a fast-moving team of highly competent software engineers on the platforms that underpin quality for all of Prime Video Sports? Are you looking for an inclusive team, where you feel safe to be yourself, to share your ideas openly, to experiment, fail and learn, and where you help influence decisions that shape the team's path forward? If so, here is an opportunity tailored for you.
We are looking for a Senior Technical Program Manager for our team in Seattle, WA. You'll help build the testing and validation applications and services that Prime Video Sports development teams and partners rely on to verify features, partner integrations, and live event configurations before they reach customers. This is a cross-functional, high-leverage opportunity: get it right, and every sports launch across the org ships with confidence; your work will prevent issues from surfacing live, in front of customers. In this role you will work across a distributed engineering team building everything from emulator-based end-to-end testing capabilities to event configuration and timing validation tools that partner and internal teams depend on daily. If you're a technical program manager, there's a home for you in Seattle working on Prime Video Sports & Live TV. Our leaders are great teachers, our engineers are world-class, and our products are fun.
Key job responsibilities
You'll own program execution across our four applications, partnering with the SDM on prioritization and engineers on delivery. You will:
- Own customer intake end to end - consolidating and prioritizing requests from Prime Video Sports teams (including PAVE and Reign) and partner integrators so effort goes to the highest-impact work
- Be the interface between customer teams and engineers - shaping requirements into clear user stories, decomposing them into technical execution plans, and tracking progress against them
- Guard the customer experience of our own tools, raising the bar on usability and simplicity, and help the team make the right feature trade-offs without compromising test coverage or business relevance
- Run the mechanisms that keep the team and stakeholders aligned: intake prioritization, work tracking, and a leadership communication
- Manage cross-team dependencies and flag roadmap risk
- Balance progress on roadmap with incoming customer requests
- Build relationships across Prime Video Sports, evangelize our tools, and represent the team's tradeoffs to leadership, including in Critical Program Reviews
- Help the team adopt AI-assisted workflows in its own tooling and processes
A day in the life
Some days you're deep in a technical discussion about why TEVS test events are contending with production traffic, and whether a throttling fix or a scaling change is the right call. Other days you're writing the monthly newsletter update for leadership, or working through a backlog of customer requests to figure out what's actually worth building next quarter. The throughline is translation: turning ambiguous asks into scoped plans, and turning engineering progress into something leadership can act on.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of technical product or program management experience
- 3+ years of software development experience
- 5+ years of technical program management working directly with software engineering teams experience
- Experience managing programs across cross functional teams, building processes and coordinating release schedules
- Experience building and evaluating system-level technical design
- Experience developing and executing/delivering product and technical roadmaps
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 5+ years of project management disciplines including scope, schedule, budget, quality, along with risk and critical path management experience
- Experience defining KPI's/SLA's used to drive multi-million dollar businesses and reporting to senior leadership
