Job description

At Tutor Me Education, we are revolutionizing the way students learn, and we're seeking passionate teachers and tutors with special education experience to provide 1:1 in-home tutoring in San Jose, CA! About the Role: As an Tutor at Tutor Me Education, you'll provide personalized, one-on-one tutoring to students with special needs in their homes. You will be responsible for helping students with daily activities, offering moral support, and delivering tailored instruction based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP).
We are currently hiring for multiple positions across all cities in San Jose, CA
Details:
  • In-Person Tutoring in San Jose, CA
  • Schedule: 25 hours a month; 5x per week for 1.25 hours
  • Rate is from $25-35 per hour

Ideal Candidate:
  • Fluent in both English and Spanish (required)
  • Experience working with students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and learning disabilities
  • Strong understanding of reading comprehension, writing development, and language-based learning challenges
  • Experience supporting essay writing, organization, grammar, and written expression
  • Skilled in teaching math word problem strategies and comprehension-based problem solving
  • Comfortable incorporating second language acquisition (Spanish) into academic instruction
  • Patient, calm, and encouraging, with strong relationship-building skills
  • Able to recognize frustration cues and provide supportive breaks and redirection
  • Creative and flexible in using student interests to increase engagement and motivation

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide individualized support in reading fluency, comprehension, and written expression
  • Help strengthen writing skills, including grammar, organization, sentence structure, and essay development
  • Support language and communication development through structured conversation and expressive language activities
  • Teach strategies for solving math word problems using step-by-step instruction and comprehension supports
  • Incorporate Spanish language learning naturally throughout sessions to support second language acquisition goals
  • Use the student's interests (e.g., religion, history, art, VR, YouTube, storytelling, and sports) to increase motivation and participation
  • Recognize signs of frustration and implement calm, supportive strategies including breaks and pacing adjustments
  • Build a strong, trusting relationship to support confidence and long-term engagement
  • Maintain a structured but flexible learning environment tailored to the student's emotional and academic needs
  • Monitor progress and adjust instructional approaches as needed
