What is a spider?

Spiders are arachnids, a class of arthropods that includes scorpions, ticks, and mites. They are known for their eight legs and ability to produce silk, which they use to build webs for catching prey, creating egg sacs, or making shelters. Spiders play an important role in ecosystems by controlling insect populations. While some people fear spiders, most species are harmless to humans and are beneficial as natural pest controllers.
