Position Summary:
The Shop Manager is responsible for leading and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the branch shop, yard, equipment, and support teams. This position plays a critical role in ensuring field crews have the equipment, materials, and support needed to safely and efficiently complete projects.

Position Summary:

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage daily shop and yard operations to support branch production goals.
- Supervise, coach, and develop mechanics, yard personnel, and support staff.
- Coordinate manpower needs, workload priorities, and operational resources.
- Ensure equipment, vehicles, and tools are properly maintained, available, and ready for field operations.
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs for fleet vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic equipment issues.
- Manage equipment inventory, including diamond tools, parts, supplies, and replacements.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and control costs through effective purchasing practices.
- Order parts and supplies while negotiating costs with vendors when needed.
- Ensure compliance with DOT requirements, FMCSA regulations, and company safety standards.
- Schedule and support required safety inspections for vehicles and equipment.
- Partner closely with Operations Managers, Dispatch, Field Supervisors, and leadership teams.
- Assist with recruiting, onboarding, training, and development of shop and field employees.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that increase efficiency, productivity, and safety.
- Provide hands-on support in the field when operational needs require.
- Prepare reports, documentation, and operational updates as needed.
Position Requirements
What We're Looking For:
- Experienced construction, fleet, equipment, or shop operations leader.
- Strong knowledge of heavy equipment maintenance, including electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical systems.
- Experience leading teams in a fast-paced construction, industrial, or service environment.
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Ability to coach, train, and hold teams accountable.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a safety-first mindset.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in concrete, construction, demolition, heavy equipment, or related industries.
- Experience managing mechanics, fleet, or field service operations.
- Knowledge of DOT/FMCSA compliance requirements.
- Previous leadership experience in a union or skilled trade environment.
