Specialty Rx Pharmacy information

What is a specialty Rx pharmacy?

A Specialty Rx Pharmacy is a pharmacy that focuses on providing medications for complex, chronic, or rare conditions that often require special handling, administration, or monitoring. These medications can include treatments for conditions such as cancer, multiple sclerosis, rheumatoid arthritis, and HIV. Specialty pharmacies offer personalized support, such as medication counseling, financial assistance, and coordination with healthcare providers to ensure patients receive the best possible care. They also manage insurance approvals and help patients navigate the challenges of specialty medication use.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a specialty Rx pharmacist, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Specialty Rx Pharmacist, you need an advanced understanding of complex medications, disease management, and patient counseling, typically supported by a PharmD degree and state licensure. Proficiency with pharmacy management systems, specialty drug ordering platforms, and insurance processing tools is essential. Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills help pharmacists educate patients and coordinate with healthcare teams. These skills ensure safe medication use, optimal patient outcomes, and effective navigation of the complexities in specialty pharmacy practice.

What are some unique challenges faced by professionals working in a specialty Rx pharmacy, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Specialty Rx Pharmacy often encounter challenges such as managing complex medication therapies for chronic or rare conditions, navigating insurance authorizations, and ensuring patient adherence. These tasks require close coordination with healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients. To address these challenges, strong communication skills, attention to detail, and ongoing education about new therapies are essential. Many pharmacies also use advanced software systems and interdisciplinary teamwork to streamline processes and improve patient outcomes.

Job description

Pharmacy Technician – Long-Term Care Pharmacy |Competitive Salary| Michigan

Are you a Michigan-licensed Pharmacy Technician with strong LTC experience? Confident using Framework-LTC, ECM and E-MAR systems in a busy pharmacy?

The role

We are looking for an experienced Pharmacy Technician to join a busy, fast-moving pharmacy environment.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys the detail behind keeping an LTC pharmacy running smoothly. You will work across prescription data entry, cycle fills, billing, claims and facility communication, helping make sure medication orders are processed correctly, and problems are resolved quickly.

You will need to be organized, dependable, and comfortable juggling several priorities without compromising accuracy.

Key Responsibilities

Your day-to-day work will include:

  • Completing accurate prescription data entry, processing and triage
  • Managing cycle fills, daily orders, acute medications and therapy changes
  • Handling 28, 30 and 31-day cycles, including early, late and partial fills
  • Managing claims, rejections, reversals, rebills and refill or quantity discrepancies
  • Supporting prior authorizations and cycle billing
  • Processing refill queues, claims and delivery requirements
  • Transmitting and troubleshooting E-MAR and Quick Mar queries from facilities
  • Investigating pharmacy, facility, payer or system workflow issues
  • Supporting refill requests, signed POs, medication changes and pharmacy transitions
  • Maintaining pharmacy compliance and providing medication-related customer support

About our company

Advanced Specialty Rx is a Michigan based, Long Term Care Pharmacy providing pharmacy services to Michigan’s Skilled Nursing Facilities & Rehabilitation Centers, Assisted Living Facilities, Home for the Aged, Adult Foster Care and Group Homes.

The Benefits

This role offers the chance to use your LTC pharmacy knowledge in a position where your experience really matters.

You will have varied responsibilities, regular interaction with facilities, and the opportunity to solve real workflow challenges rather than simply processing one task after another.

The person

To be considered for this opportunity, you will need:

  • An active Michigan Pharmacy Technician license
  • Previous long-term care pharmacy experience
  • Strong knowledge of LTC pharmacy workflows
  • Experience with Framework-LTC and ECM
  • Experience with E-MAR systems such as Quick Mar, ECP or PCC
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • A dependable, professional and team-focused approach
  • A good attendance record and the ability to thrive in a busy environment

What’s next

If you are an experienced Pharmacy Technician ready to bring your LTC knowledge to a busy and rewarding role, apply today.
