Do you instinctively spot a compelling story in everyday moments? Are you passionate about creating content that inspires action, builds community, and makes a meaningful impact?

The Houston SPCA is seeking a creative, organized, and energetic Social Media Specialist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is passionate about telling stories that save lives. In this role, you'll help bring our mission to life through engaging digital storytelling, impactful visual content, and strategic social media engagement across multiple platforms.

We are looking for someone who naturally demonstrates the following behaviors:

  • Story-Driven: You can identify compelling stories as they unfold and transform them into engaging content that connects emotionally with audiences.
  • Creative and Curious: You consistently seek new ways to capture attention through photography, video, writing, and social media trends.
  • Highly Organized: You excel at managing multiple projects, content calendars, deadlines, and priorities without sacrificing quality.
  • Detail-Oriented: You understand that accuracy, brand consistency, and timely engagement are critical to successful communication.
  • Self-Motivated: You take initiative, work independently, and proactively identify opportunities to improve performance and grow audiences.
  • Collaborative: You build strong relationships across departments and enjoy working with diverse teams to achieve common goals.
  • Adaptive: You can pivot quickly when priorities change and remain calm under pressure.
  • Mission-Focused: You believe in the power of storytelling to support animal welfare, community engagement, fundraising, and advocacy.

As our Social Media Specialist, you will:

  • Develop and publish engaging content across multiple social media platforms.
  • Capture and produce high-quality photography and video content that showcases the Houston SPCA's lifesaving work.
  • Build compelling "story packages" that combine interviews, written content, photos, and video.
  • Manage social media engagement, direct messages, online reviews, and community interactions.
  • Maintain a robust editorial calendar and coordinate content with internal stakeholders.
  • Grow audience engagement and support follower growth strategies.
  • Expand Houston SPCA's YouTube presence through strategic content development.
  • Maintain and organize a comprehensive photo and video library for organizational use.
  • Support marketing, communications, fundraising, media relations, and organizational initiatives through creative content.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated experience:

  • Growing social media audiences and engagement through strategic content.
  • Managing multiple social media platforms effectively.
  • Producing professional-quality photography, video, and written content.
  • Using analytics to measure success and improve performance.
  • Building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Supporting brand consistency across channels.
  • Managing projects independently from concept to execution.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in digital media, communications, public relations, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of successful social media experience with measurable results.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
  • Experience creating content for multiple digital platforms.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, or unscheduled hours when needed.
Why Join Houston SPCA?

Every photo, video, post, and story you create will help connect people with animals in need, inspire support for lifesaving programs, and amplify the mission of one of the nation's most respected animal welfare organizations. If you're ready to use your creativity and digital expertise to make a real difference, we'd love to hear from you.
