Job description

IT Specialist

Location: Ashland, WI - On-site Position

Department: Information Technology

Reports to: IT Director

Employment Type: Full-Time

About the Role

Northern Clearing is looking for an IT Specialist to join our growing team and serve as a point of contact for technology support across the organization. You'll troubleshoot hardware and software issues, maintain systems, and help keep our employees productive and our infrastructure running smoothly. This role is a great fit for someone with a few years of hands-on IT experience who enjoys solving problems and working directly with end users.

What You'll Do

  • Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for hardware, software, and network issues across the organization
  • Manage the full user lifecycle across our business systems: onboarding, offboarding, access changes, and licensing
  • Troubleshoot and resolve connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi, VPN, and local network problems
  • Monitor and respond to helpdesk tickets in a timely manner, escalating complex issues as needed
  • Assist with routine maintenance, patching, and updates for workstations and servers
  • Help enforce IT security best practices, including password policies, MFA, SSO, and endpoint protection

What We're Looking For

  • 2–5 years of experience in IT support, helpdesk, or a similar technical role
  • Solid understanding of the Windows operating system
  • Experience with AD / Entra ID, Microsoft 365, and common business software
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to diagnose issues methodically
  • Excellent communication skills and a customer-service mindset
  • Ability to manage multiple support requests and prioritize effectively
  • Able to work on-site in Ashland, WI daily

Nice to Have

  • Relevant certifications (CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator, etc.)
  • Experience supporting field or mobile workforces
  • Familiarity with ticketing systems
  • Basic scripting knowledge (PowerShell, Bash) for automating routine tasks
  • Experience with Azure or equivalent cloud platforms
