Position located at Corey Academy and Jones Academy.
ROLE AND PURPOSE: Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in Spanish to promote language acquisition, oracy and literacy development, and sociocultural competence to help students fulfill their potential for intellectual, language, skill, emotional, and social growth in relation to the Spanish language. This will enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in a global society.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Valid Texas teaching certificate for subject/level assigned
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
- Knowledge of Spanish Language and Culture in the US and across the world
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills
- Bilingual- fluent in English and Spanish
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the campus' instructional model and the district's curriculum program, and show written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agency, board policies and administrative regulations.
- Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Access and use available data to plan and implement appropriate instructional/learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect accommodation for individual needs of students assigned (i.e. gifted and talented, bilingual/ESL, 504, etc.)
- Conduct assessment of student learning and use results to plan instructional activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
- Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives and methods according to district and campus requirements.
- Implement the instructional framework established by the district's World Language Department.
- Maintain records regarding language acquisition and linguistics accommodations.
- Participate in extended day and/or extended year program activities as assigned.
- Ensure the integration of culture into the program design.
- Connect with other school or community agencies, businesses or resources to expand program opportunities for students.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
- Use technology to strengthen and enhance the teaching/learning process.
- Assist in planning and participate in campus special events.
- Provide students opportunities to participate actively and successfully.
Student Growth and Development
- Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formative and summative assessments.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned. Sponsor outside activities approved by the campus principal.
- Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social and emotional development of students.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, board policies, administrative regulations, and/or IEP.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities.
- Assist in selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials.
- Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes in a regular school day.
Communication
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals and teachers.
- Use various forms of parent communication and showcase of student work, including digital media.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, supervisors, students, parents and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Demonstrate current knowledge, understanding, and skill in the assigned content areas, instructional strategies and the teaching and learning process.
- Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
- Expected to attend campus required professional development classes beyond traditional district requirements geared toward dual language education, language acquisition, culture, assigned area of study or campus initiative.
- Demonstrate interest and initiative in professional development.
Miscellaneous
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environment Factors
Maintain emotional control under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling and pushing. Move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks and other classroom equipment. Possible in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Perform all duties in a safe and responsible manner. Observe all safety precautions.
