Counselor Opportunities Available
We are hiring for two levels of Substance Use Disorder Counselor roles:
Bilingual Spanish Counselor I (C1):
Under close supervision by a Certified Substance Use Disorder Counselor or Program Administrator, the C1 Counselor is in training and must be actively pursuing certification. This includes completing 2,080 supervised training hours and passing the certification exam before registration expiration.
Bilingual Spanish Counselor II (C2):
The C2 Counselor must hold current certification as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor and maintain compliance with continuing education requirements (CEUs) as outlined in Title 9. Ongoing supervision and development support are provided to ensure quality care and professional growth.
Job Summary
The DUI Program Counselor is an essential member of the Alcohol & Drug Program (ADP) team, delivering Safety Centerโ€™s DUI curriculum to empower clients to make positive behavior changes. Counselors must perform their duties in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Alcohol & Drug Counselors and the Safety Center Employee Handbook.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
โ€ข Conduct client intakes, explain contracts, assess needs, enroll in programs, and set up payments
โ€ข Prepare DL107 and proof of enrollment certificates
โ€ข Track attendance, issue completion certificates, and notify courts of non-compliance
โ€ข Lead educational groups and one-on-one interviews using ASI tools and Title 9-compliant curriculum
โ€ข Counsel clients in DMV or court-mandated programs
โ€ข Refer clients to external support and employment resources
โ€ข Maintain accurate records per court, Title 9, and internal standards
โ€ข Evaluate client progress and successful program completion
โ€ข Assist with audit preparation and compliance documentation
โ€ข Provide training and guidance to Counselor Interns as assigned
โ€ข Maintain regular, predictable attendance and strong team collaboration

Requirements of Successful Candidates
โ€ข English, Bilingual in Spanish, Russian, or ASL
โ€ข Must have the following license or California certification: MFT, SUDCC, RADT/CADC, or CATC for AOD counselor
โ€ข Regular, predictable attendance
โ€ข Experience using internet software, including Zoom and video conferencing technology
โ€ข Knowledge of basic office equipment including: Internet and email, copy and fax machines, postage meter, and telephone
โ€ข Applicants are required to attach a copy of their current California AOD Counselor Certificate
Qualifications
โ€ข Certification (or in progress) as a Substance Use Disorder Counselor from a recognized California agency
โ€ข Ability to perform each duty with professionalism and accuracy
