Job description

Forward Montana is seeking a temporary, full-time Men's Organizer to support long term organizing amongst young men in Montana including providing space for young men to build a healthy, inclusive community, discuss masculinity and cultural expectations, and learn why it’s important to engage with civic systems & how to be allies and advocates for issues that impact everyday life.

The ideal candidate understands the power of youth being involved in our civic systems and how young men are currently most at risk for targeting by bad actor extremists. Applicants should have a passion for making change and working on a breadth of civic and political projects that support FMT’s mission and vision.

Applicants should be comfortable in a fast-paced environment and able to remain flexible, with an eye toward new opportunities. All staff at Forward Montana are expected to participate in field efforts during election season (like making phone calls and knocking on doors).

What You'll Do

The Men’s Organizer will report to the Special Programs Manager and is responsible for the following:

  • Create & facilitate inclusive community spaces for young men to discuss masculinity and cultural expectations, who benefits versus who is harmed by those expectations and ultimately support shaping a new, visionary, inclusive and healthy understanding of manhood in the context of broader community and challenges of everyday Montanan’s

  • Shape this program with support from the Special Program Manager, Program Director and Executive Director. This is a new effort not only for Forward Montana but also for much of the country. This will be a role that requires a level of commitment to testing and building out what works.

  • Field Shifts & Issue Education: Organize outreach efforts to gather and promote voter registration, voter mobilization, and issue advocacy that reaches our target constituency (Montanans ages 18-34). Conduct field shifts for up to 8 hours at a time, including door-to-door and field canvassing, tabling, and giving presentations in classrooms, in the community, and to student & community groups.

  • Administrative Tasks: Conduct quality control and data entry of all collected voter registration forms, volunteer shifts, pledges-to-vote, and more. Keep forms organized and turn in all forms to the appropriate county elections offices. Other duties as assigned.

  • Actively Anti-Predjudice: You are committed to actively contributing to a more equitable and inclusive FMT by facilitating conversations around diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice with interns, fellows, members, and within staff. You’re committed to amplifying young voices to advocate for a more progressive, just Montana. You recognize how your own identities show up in the work and welcome, reflect on, and act on feedback with an eye towards continuous learning about race, ability, and other lines of difference;

  • Cultivating new relationships with young men who are seeking community and organizing them to begin meeting regularly

  • Tabling to collect voter registration at a local community event, educating young people on the Montanans for Nonpartisan Courts ballot initiative, and encouraging them to vote

  • With support, developing a roadmap for facilitating conversation topics around masculinity, community, and how to show up in a meaningful way for marginalized communities, ultimately lifting all boats

Logistics

  • You must be comfortable working unconventional hours, including nights and weekends

  • You must have access to reliable transportation (a valid driver’s license is required)

  • This position includes both in-person and virtual components due to the size of the state and where staff are located

  • You must be comfortable working, being managed, and building relationships with our statewide team remotely

This is a temporary exempt position compensated at an annualized salary of $50,500, prorated for the duration of employment. This contract ends December 31st, 2026 with the possible opportunity to continue in 2027. Forward Montana also offers the following benefits:
