Position Title: Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE)

Position Type: Full-Time, On-Site

Position Location: Colorado Springs, CO

Security Clearance: Active Top Secret

Position Overview

Waypoint's client is seeking an experienced Model-Based Systems Engineer (MBSE) to support critical U.S. Space Force (USSF) engineering initiatives associated with the National Space Test and Training Complex (NSTTC).

The MBSE Engineer will develop and maintain authoritative system models supporting requirements development, system design, architecture development, use-case definition, system integration, and technical analysis. A critical component of this effort will be supporting the creation of multiple instantiations of NSTTC enterprise architectures at various classification levels.

This position provides the opportunity to apply advanced MBSE methodologies and architecture frameworks to complex Space Force systems while working alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams supporting missionโ€‘critical national defense capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain system models using Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools, methodologies, and techniques.
  • Apply modeling languages and architecture frameworks including Systems Modeling Language (SysML) and Unified Architecture Framework (UAF).
  • Support requirements development, system design, architecture development, and useโ€‘case definition for USSF systems.
  • Develop multiple instantiations of NSTTC enterprise architectures across varying classification levels.
  • Develop system representations utilizing data architectures and data models to facilitate system interoperability.
  • Implement, maintain, and manage complex system architectures within the MBSE environment.
  • Support development of system integration plans, procedures, and scenarios for software and hardware integration testing.
  • Analyze system integration results and assess impacts to system architecture, requirements, and performance.
  • Analyze and evaluate complex systems utilizing MBSE models and engineering artifacts.
  • Participate in engineering studies used to evaluate design solutions and recommend preferred courses of action.
  • Support project and programโ€‘level technical risk identification, analysis, and mitigation.
  • Participate in requirements and technical design reviews.
  • Develop, maintain, and update requirements specifications, architecture products, and technical documentation.
  • Communicate technical findings and engineering recommendations to program leadership, customers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Required Qualifications
  • Active, inโ€‘scope DoW Top Secret security clearance.
  • ABETโ€‘accredited engineering degree or Bachelor's degree in a related technical field.
  • Minimum 6 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Demonstrated experience applying Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) methodologies.
  • Experience with industryโ€‘standard MBSE tools such as:
    • Cameo / MagicDraw
    • IBM Rhapsody
    • Comparable modelโ€‘based engineering platforms
  • Experience developing and maintaining system architectures, models, requirements, and engineering artifacts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively communicate technical information through documentation, presentations, and engineering reviews.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering and government/customer environments.
Desired Qualifications
  • ABETโ€‘accredited degree in Systems Engineering or another related engineering discipline.
  • OCSMP Level 1 and Level 2 certifications.
  • INCOSE ASEP or CSEP certification.
  • Advanced experience with SysML and UAF.
  • Experience developing enterpriseโ€‘level architectures for complex systems or systemsโ€‘ofโ€‘systems.
  • Experience supporting DoD and/or U.S. Space Force programs.
  • Experience with system integration, verification, testing, and technical risk analysis.
