Job description

The Citrix VDI Engineer (Sr. Systems Administrator) provides seniorlevel system administration, integration, and sustainment support for missioncritical applications and systems supporting United States Space Command. This role performs installation, upgrades, daily operations, backups, troubleshooting, and lifecycle maintenance across virtualized environments, physical servers, storage systems, and specialized mission applications. Work is performed with minimal supervision. This role requires advanced technical expertise, strong communication skills, a high adherence to quality & standards, and the ability to support geographically dispersed customers and engineering teams. The VDI Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Supporting VDI system administration for United States Space Command
  • Assisting engineering teams during software integration, testing, PITCO, SOVT, and installation events
  • Providing troubleshooting and technical support for hardware/software discrepancies identified during installation or after
  • Supporting secure system configurations, cybersecurity compliance, and RMFaligned hardening activities
  • Assisting with activities for United States Space Command’s transition to Red Stone Arsenal
  • Participating in technical & project planning meetings with NIWC Pacific, United States Space Command, OEMs, and contracting partners
  • Providing on-call or surge support during mission-critical events, exercises, or transition windows as required
  • Supporting facility transitions, stand-ups, and relocations, including VDI cutovers, migrations, and capacity planning for new or expanded mission locations
  • Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including architecture diagrams, SOPs, operational runbooks, and recovery procedures

  • Experience: 10+ years of systems administration experience in a Department of Defense (DoD) Windows enterprise environment.
  • VDI: Hands-on administration of Citrix CVAD (Virtual Apps & Desktops) deployments, alongside general enterprise virtualization (e.g., VMware ESXi, Dell VxRail, Nutanix HCI) and VDI ecosystems.
  • Systems Administration: Advanced management of Microsoft Group Policy Objects (GPOs), software/patch management (WSUS, MECM, SCCM), SQL Server (Always On availability groups), and profile management technologies.
  • Security & Compliance: Deploying DISA STIGs, hardening Windows 10/11 endpoints, and managing Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) certificates.
  • Hardware & Facilities: Assisting with desktop deployment activities as needed (installing clients & peripherals/KVMs). The physical ability to get into confined spaces when needed. Able to assist with server and cabling installs in a datacenter type environment & handle and lift up to 50 lbs. of hardware.
  • Advanced Networking & Traffic Management: Strong understanding of OSI model, routing/switching, packet analysis (Wireshark, tcpdump), and experience configuring mainstream load balancers (F5, NetScaler) and Global Server Load Balancing (GSLB).
  • Technical Engineering & Design: Ability to research and translate vendor white papers and industry best practices into actionable system configurations, paired with strong technical communication skills.
  • Certifications: Active DoD 8570 IAT Level II (e.g., Security+ CE, CCNA Security) and a professional-level VDI administration certification.

  • Education & DoD Environment Context: Bachelor's degree in a related discipline (or equivalent experience) and experience supporting high-tempo operational DoD environments (e.g., COCOMs, Joint Operations Centers, or Service Branch enterprise networks).
  • Cloud & Modern SaaS: Experience administering Amazon Web Services (AWS) environments and fielding Microsoft 365 solutions.
  • Specialized DoD Security & Identity Systems: Experience managing DoD Host Based Security System (HBSS), configuring Axway Tumbleweed/OCSP solutions, and managing Cross-Domain Solutions like Everfox (Forcepoint/Raytheon) Trusted Thin Client.
  • Core Infrastructure & Automation: Proficiency in PowerShell automation, managing advanced DNS/DHCP configurations (Infoblox or Windows Failover Cluster), and managing Service Principal Names (SPNs).
