Job description

Recess is where the everyday takes a break.
Opening in Fall 2026, Recess Hotel & Club is bringing a new kind of hospitality to the heart of Savannah. Housed within the historic Manger Building, Recess blends a 221-room lifestyle hotel with a members club, rooftop pool, French brasserie, wellness club, coworking spaces, and lively social venues-all designed around one simple idea: life is better when there's room to play.
Recess is the newest project from Left Lane, the team behind Hotel Bardo Savannah. In just one year, Bardo has earned Condรฉ Nast Traveler's inaugural Triple Crown distinction-recognizing hotels that have achieved the publication's Hot List, Gold List, and Readers' Choice Awards-along with the inaugural Michelin Key designation and recognition from Travel + Leisure as one of the Best New Hotels of the Year. It's this same commitment to thoughtful hospitality and unforgettable experiences that we're bringing to Recess.
We're building more than a hotel. We're building a team of people who believe great hospitality is thoughtful, personal, and a little unexpected. Whether you're welcoming guests, creating memorable meals, keeping the operation running seamlessly, or leading a team, every role helps shape the Recess experience from day one.
If you're curious, collaborative, and excited by the opportunity to build something from the ground up, we'd love to meet you.
Find and seek. Stay here, play here. Welcome to Recess.
About the role
Our team at Recess Hotel & Club is seeking an experienced and entrepreneurially minded Spa Manager to lead all day-to-day operations of Saltgrass Spa. This is the senior operational role at the spa - responsible for team leadership, financial performance, guest experience standards, brand partner relationships, and the overall health of the business. The Spa Manager reports directly to the General Manager and works closely with the broader Recess Hotel leadership team. There is no Spa Director above this role; the Spa Manager is the decision-maker on the floor and the steward of the Saltgrass brand.
The ideal candidate has hands-on spa operations experience in a boutique or lifestyle hotel environment, a genuine understanding of wellness culture, and the presence to lead a team while staying close to the guest experience. This is a working manager role - you will be on the floor, visible, and involved.
This is an on-site position at Recess Hotel & Club in Savannah.
What you'll do
Operations & Guest Experience
  • Oversee all daily spa operations including the wet circuit, treatment rooms, retail boutique, and locker rooms
  • Maintain Saltgrass brand standards across every guest touchpoint - circuit presentation, treatment execution, retail curation, and team presentation
  • Develop, implement, and continuously refine spa operating procedures and service standards
  • Manage the Book4Time scheduling system, ensuring optimal treatment room utilization and appropriate staffing levels
  • Handle escalated guest concerns with professionalism and ownership - resolve in the moment, document, and follow up
  • Coordinate with the Recess Hotel leadership team (GM, F&B, Rooms, Marketing) on property-wide initiatives, events, and guest experience

Team Leadership
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and develop all Saltgrass spa team members: Spa Hosts, Spa Attendants, therapists, and the Skin RN
  • Create and manage staff scheduling across all roles, balancing coverage, labor budget, and team wellbeing
  • Conduct regular performance reviews and provide ongoing coaching and feedback
  • Foster a team culture that reflects the Saltgrass values - warm, knowledgeable, unhurried, and deeply attentive
  • Manage therapist productivity and ensure protocol adherence across all treatment brand partnerships (Codage Paris, Figaro Apothecary, Red Flower)

Financial Performance & Retail
  • Own the spa P&L - monitor revenue, manage labor and product costs, and report performance to the GM
  • Set and manage retail sales targets; drive product knowledge, retail recommendations, and boutique presentation
  • Manage inventory across all brand partner lines - ordering, receiving, par levels, and loss prevention
  • Develop and execute retail and treatment promotions in coordination with the Recess Marketing team
  • Identify revenue opportunities: membership programming, package development, group bookings, and retreat offerings

Brand Partnerships & Programming
  • Maintain and grow relationships with all Saltgrass brand partners: Lesse, Codage Paris, Figaro Apothecary, Red Flower, Corpus Naturals, Malbon Golf, Lingua Franca, and Flamingo Estate
  • Coordinate brand partner training sessions for the spa team
  • Support the development and launch of seasonal treatment menus and programming activations
  • Collaborate with the Skin RN on medical wellness offerings, ensuring clear scope-of-practice boundaries and seamless guest experience

Qualifications
  • 3-5 years of spa operations experience, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role
  • Prior experience in a boutique hotel, lifestyle property, or elevated wellness environment strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a multi-role team
  • Financial acumen - comfortable reading a P&L, managing a labor budget, and owning retail performance
  • Deep product knowledge in skincare and wellness; enthusiasm for continued learning across the Saltgrass brand portfolio
  • Book4Time or equivalent spa software proficiency
  • Excellent written and verbal communication; professional presentation
  • Cosmetology, esthetics, massage, or related licensure a plus but not required
  • Flexible availability including weekends, holidays, and variable hours as operational needs dictate

Why Recess?
Build something from the beginning.
  • Join the opening team behind one of Savannah's most anticipated lifestyle hotels and help shape the guest experience from day one.

Take care of yourself.
  • Medical, dental, vision, and wellness benefits for eligible full-time team members
