The Investment Department manages assets across a broad range of asset classes, including:

  • Municipal Bonds
  • Structured Products, including ABS, RMBS, and CMBS
  • Sovereign Debt

This internship is designed for current GRADUATE students. Interns will work at the State Farm CityLine campus in Richardson, Texas, within the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area.
What You'll Do
  • Perform credit analysis on existing portfolio holdings and potential new investments, including analysis of the economic, demographic, and financial characteristics of municipal bond issuers such as state and local governments, school districts, utility systems, institutions of higher education, and toll roads within the approximately $50 billion municipal bond portfolio.
  • Conduct research on sector trends and developments within the segments of the municipal market.
  • Present analytical conclusions and recommendations in a collaborative, team-based environment.
  • Present investment recommendations to senior leaders and experienced investment professionals through written reports and oral presentations.

What You'll Learn and Gain
  • Gain hands-on exposure to the management of a large municipal bond portfolio.
  • Develop a deeper understanding of the investment industry, State Farm investment philosophy, and other asset classes within the Investment Department.
  • Contribute to a collaborative team environment that encourages thoughtful discussion and different perspectives.
  • Receive personalized mentoring and coaching from experienced investment professionals.
  • Network with senior leaders and external investment industry professionals.
  • Collaborate and build relationships with other talented interns.
  • Strengthen analytical, communication and presentation skills.

Qualifications
  • Current GRADUATE students who will have completed first year graduate studies by start of the summer internship. Candidates pursuing a Master of Public Policy, Master of Public Administration, Master of Business Administration, or Master of Finance are preferred.
  • Cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher preferred, with a record of academic and personal achievement.
  • Coursework in areas such as state and local tax policy, economics, statistics, fixed income investments, or state and local governmental accounting preferred.
  • Analytical, inquisitive, energetic, detail oriented, and self-driven with strong written and verbal communication skills and an ability to articulate and support research findings.
  • Ability to collaborate and engage in a dynamic team environment.
  • Initiative, intellectual curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning.
