LIABILITY CLAIMS ADJUSTER II 

JOB SUMMARY: 

The purpose of this position is to manage and resolve general liability, automobile and other claims involving alleged bodily injury and property damages, and to pursue third party damage billing, subrogation and contractor indemnification opportunities for the company. This position is for more experienced adjusters and requires proven mastery of basic liability adjusting skills.

  • Associate Degree 
  • Adjuster License 

Preferred: 

  • Associate In Claims (AIC) 
  • Bachelors Degree 

Related Work Experience: 

Required: 

  • 3 years experience in industry 
  • Equivalent academic education and experience 

Preferred: 

  • 4 years experience investigating, evaluating, and resolving General Liability and Auto Liability claims involving both Property Damage and Bodily Injury. 

Specific Skills & Knowledge: 

Required: 

  • Interpersonal skills including negotiating, influencing, and persuasion   
  • Demonstrated ability in decision making skills 
  • Computer literacy - intermediate proficiency 

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:   

  • Keyboarding = Constant 67-100% 
  • Travel = Occasional 1-33% 
  • On-call = None 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & ACCOUNTABILITIES BY COMPETENCY 

Functional Expertise:

  • Processes motor vehicle, liability and casualty claims, research and 
  • gathers relevant information; evaluates claim validity; negotiates claims 
  • (within a prescribed authority limit) to ensure equitable and timely 
  • settlements; and communicates with involved parties. 
  • Prepares and submits initial reports and tracks actions taken, claim 
  • developments and status of assigned claims. 
  • Submits administrative reports as required. 
  • Pursues third parties to recover damage to company property, facilities or 
  • Equipment. 
  • Must be able to demonstrate a strong command of all liability issues and 
  • claims techniques. 
  • Able to handle litigated claims of moderate complexity. 
  • Able to handle complex liability claims including cross bore and bodily 
  • injury claims. 

Business Acumen: 

  • Develops and utilizes innovative claim resolution strategies and 
  • investigative techniques. 
  • Identifies appropriate resources within the Field Operations, Corporate 
  • Security and other departments to evaluate the merits and value of claims. 
  • Participates in or provide input to Large Loss reviews. 

Engagement: 

  • Coordinates the work of outside vendors (e.g., independent adjusters, investigators, appraisers) to ensure quality efficiency and cost effectiveness. 
  • Represents the company as a technical resource and attends legal 
  • proceedings as needed. 
  • Regularly communicates with Manager, Claims and the Legal 
  • Department regarding the status of pending claims, particularly claims 
  • involving potentially significant exposure or risk of litigation. 

Driving Results: 

  • Manages claims to minimize the overall cost to the company and 
  • maximize recovery for damage to company property, facility or 
  • equipment. 
  • Adheres to Best Practices and fully documents all claims activity in claims operating system.
