Job Description

SUMMARY:

Reporting to the News Director, the Reporter, South Jersey covers news, communities, and affairs in southern New Jersey, including Camden, Burlington, Ocean, Atlantic, Cape May, Cumberland, Salem, and Gloucester counties. This individual develops original stories reflecting the distinct character and concerns of South Jersey communities and files content for broadcast, streaming, and digital platforms.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and pitch story ideas from the South Jersey beat.

  • Conduct on-camera and off-camera interviews with sources, officials, and community members.

  • Shoot, write, and edit video packages for broadcast and digital delivery.

  • File content for daily newscasts and digital platforms on deadline.

  • Cover breaking news, government meetings, community events, and enterprise stories across the coverage area.

  • Cultivate source relationships with officials, community leaders, and organizations in South Jersey.

  • Contribute to digital and social media content, including short-form video and social posts.

  • Collaborate with producers and editors on story development and editorial priorities.

  • Contribute to the booking of guests and interview subjects.

  • May substitute-anchor on news programs from time to time as needed.

  • Represent NJ PBS at community events in the South Jersey coverage area.

  • Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Management retains the right to add or change job duties at any time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in journalism, communications, broadcasting, or a related field.

  • A minimum of three years of video-based reporting experience, including field reporting, and clip and package production.

  • Ability to shoot and edit video content for broadcast and digital delivery.

  • Valid NJ driver's license.

  • Experience with digital and social media storytelling.

  • Adhere to NJ PBS editorial standards and public media ethics guidelines.


PREFERRED:

  • Knowledge of South Jersey communities, institutions, and regional issues.

  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish.

Salary Range

$70,000.00-$85,000.00 Annually
