Job description

About the Role:
Grade Level (for internal use):
15 The Team:
Enterprise Solutions (ES) Technology is a powerful combination of world class people and businesses with a shared mission and legacy of evolving markets and delivering for the most demanding customers in the world.
We are the catalyst to bring data, software, services, and expertise together to power the markets of the future. We drive growth through world class execution, a growth mindset, and our unique expertise and passion for building innovative and connected solutions. We collaborate with our business line to drive business growth by focusing on execution of our joint product strategies. We ensure that we maximize business value while at the same time minimizing cost of ownership of our technology estate.
Responsibilities and Impact:
  • We are seeking a senior technology leader to partner closely with the Head of Technology for Enterprise Solutions in shaping the technology direction of a complex, regulated financial-services estate.
  • This is a hands-on principal engineer and architect role, not a pure governance or advisory architecture function. The role exists to ensure technology strategy is grounded in engineering reality, deep domain understanding, and operational outcomes.
  • You will work directly with the Head of Technology to shape and refine strategy, stress-testing ideas against engineering, regulatory, and operational constraints. You will engage closely with senior engineering leaders, platform teams, and product partners to turn strategy into real designs that can be built and run.
  • You will get involved early in complex or high-risk initiatives and step in when it matters most, including during major incidents and recovery efforts. A key part of the role is knowing when to push forward, when to simplify, and when to slow down or stop.
  • You will act as the engineering authority across Enterprise Solutions, leading primarily through influence rather than line management and the role carries broad responsibility for shaping architecture, design, and delivery decisions across multiple teams and domains.
  • You will balance long-term strategy with near-term delivery constraints, operational resilience, and regulatory expectations, and represent the technology direction with clients and senior stakeholders, explaining design choices and trade-offs clearly and credibly. Overall, this role strengthens the technology function by making strategy buildable, operable, and defensible.
Compensation/Benefits Information: (This section is only applicable to US candidates)
S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $177,036 to $350,000. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual's geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications. This role is eligible to receive additional S&P Global benefits. For more information on the benefits we provide to our employees, please click here .
What We're Looking For:
Basic Required Qualifications
  • 25+ years of technology leadership experience in tier-1 banking, capital markets, or other highly regulated, mission-critical environments, with hands-on engineering expertise and the ability to code and engage deeply with technical teams.
  • Proven expertise in enterprise architecture and technology strategy, including defining multi-year roadmaps, reference architectures, design standards, and architectural governance for complex financial services platforms.
  • Strong technical depth in distributed, event-driven, data-intensive systems, cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP), security, resilience, regulatory compliance, and large-scale production environments.
  • Deep domain knowledge of financial services and emerging technologies, including banking operations, regulatory reporting, data platforms, AI/analytics in production, and modern architectural paradigms such as agent-based systems, knowledge graphs, and semantic data models.
Additional Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strategic thinking and sound judgement, with the ability to balance long-term vision, regulatory requirements, operational realities, and business outcomes.
  • Influential leadership, capable of driving decisions, alignment, and engineering excellence through credibility, collaboration, and expertise rather than formal authority.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management, able to articulate complex technical concepts, trade-offs, and risks clearly to executives, clients, regulators, and engineering teams.
  • Coaching and mentoring mindset, raising the capability of senior engineers and architects through hands-on guidance, design reviews, and practical problem-solving.
Right to Work Requirements:
This role is limited to persons with indefinite right to work in the United States.
Return to Work:
Have you taken time out for caring responsibilities and are now looking to return to work? As part of our Return to Work initiative, Restart, we are encouraging enthusiastic and talented returners to apply, and will actively support your return to the workplace.
