Job description

Join Our Wichita, Kansas Team as a Daytime or Nocturnist Hospital Medicine Physician – A Role Designed for You

We believe in bringing "better" to our local community in Wichita—better care, better collaboration, and a deep commitment to the people we serve. We'd love to talk if you're looking for a role that supports your professional growth and connection to a vibrant community.

Local Team Collaboration:

  • Join our close-knit team of 30 physicians and six advanced practice providers (APPs) at Via Christi St. Francis.
  • The 360-bed hospital is an open ICU with intensivist support.
  • Work alongside clinicians from diverse backgrounds and experience levels who collaborate effectively and enjoy spending time together professionally and socially.
  • Our day-to-day culture fosters a team atmosphere in a large, shared office space supported by a multidisciplinary patient care model.
  • We prioritize open communication, involving team members in decisions and encouraging them to champion projects that improve care, such as updating order sets.
  • Many clinicians serve on hospital committees, including the medical executive committee, strengthening relationships with specialists and our supportive administration. At the core of everything we do is a commitment to a strong work ethic, honesty, and patient safety.

Qualifications:

  • Board-certified/eligible internal medicine or family medicine physicians.
  • J1 candidates invited to apply; access to Sound’s in-house visa specialists as well as our licensing and credentialing experts; all required filing fees for the visa are paid and services covered
  • Accepting new graduates, residents, and fellows.

Scheduling:

  • We offer flexible scheduling.
  • Our retention rate is high, and we work collaboratively within our team to ensure coverage for time off.

Key Responsibilities:

  • No procedures required.
  • 24/7 critical care coverage.
  • Independent Code Blue and rapid response teams 24/7.
  • Stroke code teams 24/7.
  • Large nocturnist team each night: three physicians and one APP.
  • Level 1 Trauma Center.
  • Comprehensive Stroke Center.
  • Advanced structural heart program.
  • 24/7 PICC line/central line team.
  • Manage a wide variety of cases at a large community-based hospital, including admissions and cross-coverage, with the support of a robust multispecialty team.
  • We leverage our advanced resources and specialist availability to provide care for patients transferred from smaller rural hospitals requiring a higher level of expertise.
  • Collaborate closely with residents, contributing to a teaching and mentorship environment.
  • Work in coordination with an intensivist team that handles all procedures, allowing you to focus on patient care and clinical decision-making.
  • Utilize Cerner with Dragon for efficient dictation and access to our internal informatics platform for streamlined workflow and communication.

Living and Working in Wichita:

  • Wichita, Kansas, is an affordable and welcoming city known for its strong sense of community, diverse cultural attractions, and proximity to the scenic Arkansas River.
  • With a robust job market in the aviation industry and a range of cultural amenities, Wichita offers residents a balanced and fulfilling lifestyle.
  • Some clinicians volunteer their time in low-income clinics in the community or through the university. We also take medical students and residents on our service to provide volunteer teaching.
  • Via Christi is a not-for-profit health system, so many resources are available for the uninsured or the underinsured.

Compensation:

  • Well-rounded compensation package.
