GPI is seeking a Senior Traffic Engineer to grow and lead our traffic engineering discipline in the Delmarva region. This is a key leadership role for an experienced professional who desires to win work, build a team, and deliver technically sound traffic engineering services for public-sector clients.

This position is ideal for an experienced traffic engineer ready to take on greater business development responsibility in the DelMarVa region. The candidate should be highly proficient, be able to support project delivery, and will collaborate closely with senior engineers and project managers on a wide range of transportation projects.

In this role, you will pursue and manage contracts, develop client relationships, recruit and mentor staff, and perform traffic analyses, design, and reviews on active projects. This position offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects while helping shape the growth of GPI's traffic engineering practice in the region.

Responsibilities

  • Support business development efforts through project pursuits, proposals, and client coordination
  • Seek and pursue traffic support service contracts to build a portfolio of traffic-related work in Maryland and Delaware
  • Manage contracts, projects, and tasks for traffic engineering assignments
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, and internal project teams to ensure successful project delivery
  • Prepare and review traffic engineering analyses, including traffic impact studies, operational analyses, and safety evaluations
  • Develop and review traffic signal plans, signing and pavement marking plans, and other traffic design elements
  • Perform and review traffic capacity and operational analyses using industry-standard tools
  • Review and interpret traffic data, including turning movement counts and field observations
  • Prepare and review technical reports, memoranda, exhibits, and agency submissions
  • Support junior staff through technical guidance and mentoring
  • Assist with construction administration and respond to field issues as needed

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a related discipline
  • PE required, PTOE preferred
  • 12 or more years of relevant traffic or transportation engineering experience
  • Proven ability to manage projects and client relationships and coordinate multidisciplinary teams
  • Solid understanding of traffic engineering principles, standards, and design practices
  • Experience with traffic analysis and design software such as Synchro, HCS, VISSIM, AutoCAD, or MicroStation
  • Experience with Maryland DOT, DelDOT, county, or municipal projects is strongly preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
