Driving Grid Innovation, Leading FACTS & HVDC Growth

Mitsubishi Electric Power Products, Inc. (MEPPI) is seeking a highly experienced Principal Sales Engineer to lead business development and sales efforts for our FACTS (Flexible AC Transmission Systems) and HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) solutions within the Substation Division. This role serves as both a technical and commercial leader, developing customer relationships, driving strategic pursuits, and delivering innovative solutions that support the modernization and reliability of the electric grid.

This position will report to the Substation Division Product Line Manager – FACTS and HVDC and is a remote position based in the United States. Less than 50% travel required.

What You’ll Do:

Business Development & Sales Leadership
  • Identify and develop new business opportunities for FACTS and HVDC solutions across North America.
  • Partner with MEPPI Regional Sales Managers, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (MELCO), manufacturers' representatives, EPCs, utilities, and consultants to secure strategic bidding opportunities.
  • Develop and execute customer-specific sales strategies that position MEPPI solutions ahead of competitors.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key utility, transmission, and EPC customers nationwide.
Technical Solution Development
  • Define and develop technical and commercial solution strategies for customer opportunities.
  • Create innovative approaches to complex substation and transmission challenges while maximizing MEPPI and MELCO value-added content.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams, factories, and suppliers to develop tailored customer solutions.
  • Provide technical leadership during bid development, proposal reviews, and customer negotiations.
Proposal Development & Commercial Strategy
  • Lead preparation of budgetary and firm technical and commercial proposals in response to customer inquiries and RFQs.
  • Support proposal strategy, pricing development, risk assessments, and contract negotiations.
  • Assist sales teams in developing creative, competitive, and technically sound customer proposals.
  • Research and implement pricing strategies that strengthen market competitiveness and profitability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Support Product Line Management activities, including:
    • Product roadmapping
    • Risk reviews
    • Approval meetings
    • Strategic planning initiatives
  • Act as a liaison between MEPPI, MELCO, engineering teams, and third-party suppliers to ensure solutions align with North American market requirements.
Customer Engagement & Industry Representation
  • Deliver technical presentations to customers, consultants, and industry stakeholders.
  • Develop customer-facing sales materials, solution briefs, and presentation tools.
  • Support industry conferences, customer meetings, and business development events.
  • Maintain accurate opportunity and proposal records using Salesforce and other company systems.

What You Bring:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10 years of sales, business development, or commercial experience supporting electrical equipment, transmission systems, substations, or related infrastructure projects.
    • Proven success developing and closing large-scale utility, EPC, or power infrastructure opportunities.
Skills & Expertise
  • Advanced knowledge of FACTS and HVDC technologies and their applications within transmission systems.
  • Deep understanding of substation design, including electrical, structural, and civil engineering considerations.
  • Strong technical and commercial proposal development experience.
  • Advanced negotiation skills with the ability to influence customer decisions and structure winning solutions.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop technical drawings and engineering documentation.
  • Exceptional presentation, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Strong project management abilities with the capability to manage multiple pursuits simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and CRM platforms such as Salesforce.
