Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (Med Surg RN)
Location: Ottumwa, IA
Shift: Full-Time | Day Shift (07:00 AM - 07:00 PM)
Bonus: $15,000 Commitment Bonus (2-year term)
Virtus Healthcare Staffing is seeking a compassionate and driven Med Surg RN to join our partner's dynamic clinical team in Ottumwa, IA. Position Summary
As a Med Surg RN, you will be responsible for the comprehensive care of adult patients experiencing a wide range of health conditions. Working under the supervision of the unit Director, you will assess, plan, and deliver individualized nursing care based on sound clinical judgment and best practice standards. This role is ideal for a nurse with strong foundational skills who enjoys collaborative, fast-paced environments and wants to grow professionally in medical-surgical nursing.
Core Responsibilities
  • Deliver safe, compassionate, and evidence-based care to patients within the scope of nursing practice as defined by the Iowa Board of Nursing
  • Conduct assessments and coordinate nursing care plans to support patient recovery and overall health outcomes
  • Administer medications and treatments accurately and monitor for side effects or reactions
  • Collaborate with physicians and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement comprehensive patient care strategies
  • Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans, recovery expectations, and health management
  • Document nursing interventions, patient responses, and updates in the electronic medical record system
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and adhere to infection control and safety protocols
Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited RN program
  • Unencumbered Iowa RN license (or Compact State equivalent)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Recent experience as a practicing RN in a clinical setting
Preferred Qualifications
  • At least 1 year of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Excellent communication and clinical problem-solving abilities
