Job description

Colossal is seeking a story-driven Junior Editor to transform footage from the lab, the field, and the day-to-day work behind de-extinction into sharp, emotionally resonant content. This role blends hands-on editing with essential assistant editor responsibilities. From organizing and logging a continuous flow of footage to building selects, string-outs, and cuts that uncover the de-extinction story as it unfolds. The ideal candidate has strong storytelling instincts, meticulous organizational skills, an eye for meaningful moments in unscripted material, and an eagerness to experiment with new tools and formats.

This position is based on-site full time in Dallas, TX.

Responsibilities:

Story & Edit Support

  • Build structured stringouts for field footage
  • Assemble select cutdowns that highlight key moments and emotional beats that are brand-forward
  • Log, tag, and organize footage by both content and storytelling intent

Editing & Content Creation

  • Create social cutdowns and platform-native edits (Instagram, X, etc.)
  • Adapt longer-form content into sharp, high-impact short-form pieces
  • Contribute to brand sizzles and exploratory edits
  • Support video shorts and formatting for multiple distribution platforms

Post-Production Workflow

  • Assist with importing media and organizing raw footage
  • Maintain clean project structures and asset libraries
  • Help manage and organize the internal video library for easy access and reuse

Audio & Finishing

  • Assist with basic audio editing, synchronization, and cleanup
  • Source music and support light sound design when needed
  • Perform basic color correction to ensure visual consistency

Preferred Qualifications

  • Foundational AE + editing skills with strong instincts for pacing and storytelling
  • Experience editing for social platforms and understanding of platform-specific formats
  • Proficiency in Premiere Pro (After Effects a plus)
  • Highly organized with strong attention to detail in post-production workflows
