Job description

THE ROLE

The Packhouse Production Assistant supports packing, quality-control sorting, and runner activities for leafy vegetables and herbs. This position inspects, weighs, arranges, packs, stages, and moves product while maintaining quality standards, a consistent production pace, facility sanitation, and employee and food safety requirements. The role may also support material handling, product changeovers, inventory counts, and other packhouse activities as assigned.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

Production and Quality

  • Pack and perform quality-control sorting of leafy vegetables and herbs on a full-time basis.
  • Inspect and weigh greens, arrange leaves, and place product in clamshell containers.
  • Report product quality or pest concerns, including tip burn, dropped leaves, or insects, to the supervisor and discard affected leaves as instructed.
  • Ensure only product that meets quality standards is packed.
  • Maintain a consistent packing pace of 2 packs per minute for clamshells and 6 packs per minute for trays.
  • Prepare product for boxing and help load products onto U-boats or pallets in preparation for truck loading.

Employee and Food Safety Compliance

  • Follow the facility GMPs.
  • Execute daily processes that enforce food safety protocols and maintain compliance.
  • Follow company FSQA processes and policies, dress-code requirements, and GAP/GMP rules, including restrictions on earphones, hoods, food, and phones and requirements for clean clothing and rubber-soled shoes.
  • Wash hands properly and wear required personal protective equipment at all times.
  • Assist with cleaning and sanitation of the greenhouse and packhouse, including gutter washing, and follow approved cleaning and sanitation methods.

Coordination and Facility Support

  • Assist with loading and unloading greenhouse and packhouse supplies and materials.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

WHO YOU ARE

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for an 8-hour shift.
  • Ability to work comfortably in summer heat conditions and air-conditioned rooms.
  • Ability to work at a steady pace with close attention to detail.
  • Reliable transportation to and from work.
  • Open availability to work varying schedules, including weekends when needed.
  • Valid authorization to work in the United States.

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Attention to detail and the ability to consistently identify and pack quality product.
  • Ability to maintain established packing rates while following quality, safety, and sanitation procedures.
  • Ability to communicate product-quality, pest, supply, and production-flow concerns promptly.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and provide flexible support across packing, sorting, runner, harvesting, and facility-support activities as assigned.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures, complete required training, and maintain accurate temperature or inventory information when assigned.
