What is a solution train engineer?

A Solution Train Engineer (STE) is a leadership role in the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) responsible for coordinating and managing a Solution Train, which includes multiple Agile Release Trains (ARTs) working together to deliver large, complex solutions. The STE facilitates cross-team collaboration, ensures alignment with business priorities, removes impediments, and fosters continuous improvement. They work closely with Solution Management, Architects, and stakeholders to ensure successful solution delivery. The role requires strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills to drive business value at scale.

What are some common challenges solution train engineers face when coordinating multiple Agile Release Trains?

Solution Train Engineers often navigate challenges such as aligning diverse teams toward shared objectives, managing dependencies across multiple agile release trains (ARTs), and ensuring consistent communication among stakeholders. Balancing competing priorities, resolving risks and impediments at the solution level, and adapting to changing requirements are also frequent aspects of the role. Successful Solution Train Engineers develop strong facilitation and problem-solving skills, enabling them to maintain momentum and deliver value even in complex, fast-moving settings. This role is highly collaborative and plays a pivotal part in large-scale agile transformations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a solution train engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Solution Train Engineer, you need expertise in agile methodologies, large-scale program management, and systems thinking, usually supported by a degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Jira, SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) certifications, and enterprise planning software is highly valued. Strong communication, organizational, and leadership skills help facilitate alignment across multiple agile teams and stakeholders. These capabilities enable effective coordination and delivery of complex solutions in dynamic, multi-team environments.

Engineer Complex Construction Projects. Build Something That Matters.

Superior Rigging & Erecting is seeking an experienced Structural Engineer (PE) to support complex crane, heavy lifts, structural steel, temporary works, heavy transportation, and specialty construction projects throughout the Southeast.

This is not a traditional consulting or design-only role. You will work directly with Operations, Project Management, Safety, and Executive Leadership to develop engineered solutions that are successfully executed in the field. As our Engineering & Technical Services function continues to grow, you will have the opportunity to influence engineering standards, mentor future talent, and help shape the future of the department.

What You Will Do

  • Develop engineered lift plans, structural calculations, and technical engineering solutions.
  • Perform structural analysis for temporary works, lifting systems, crane support systems, and complex loading conditions.
  • Evaluate crane configurations, ground bearing pressures, construction sequencing, and means and methods.
  • Conduct project site visits to assess constructability, access, and engineering risks.
  • Support critical lifts, structural steel erection, machinery installations, and specialty construction activities.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record for engineered lifting and structural support activities when required.
  • Partner with Operations, Project Management, Estimating, and Safety to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Establish engineering standards, calculation procedures, and technical best practices.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continued growth of the Engineering & Technical Services function.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, Structural Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Florida PE license or ability to obtain through reciprocity. Preference of holding FL &GA licenses.Β
  • Experience supporting structural, industrial, construction, manufacturing, infrastructure, or engineering consulting projects.
  • Strong structural analysis, engineering judgment, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience reviewing construction documents and collaborating with field operations.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, RAM, RISA, TEDDS, Bluebeam, or similar engineering software.
  • Ability to work in both office and active construction environments.
  • Ability to travel periodically throughout the Southeast.

Experience in crane and rigging engineering is preferred but not required. We welcome experienced structural engineers looking to apply their expertise in a unique construction environment.

Why Join Superior Rigging & Erecting?

  • Help build a growing Engineering & Technical Services function.
  • Work directly with executive leadership and operational decision-makers.
  • Solve technically challenging projects that require practical engineering judgment.
  • See your engineering solutions implemented in the field.
  • Work on complex projects involving heavy lift, structural steel, industrial facilities, and specialty construction.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience, technical expertise, and professional licensure.
  • Comprehensive benefits including Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), Paid Time Off, and Paid Holidays.

About Superior Rigging & Erecting

Since 1952, Superior Rigging & Erecting has been a leader in crane services, rigging, structural steel erection, heavy transportation, machinery moving, and specialty construction.
