Job description

Mechanical Engineer / Designer Foley, AL 36535 System One is seeking a Mechanical Engineer / Designer in Foley, Alabama to support industrial projects from concept through installation by developing mechanical/structural design packages and producing fabrication-ready drawings (dimensions/tolerances, weld symbols, material specs) while coordinating with engineers, fabricators, and plant/site personnel. This position requires industrial mechanical design experience (steel/aluminum preferred), knowledge of fabrication/welding/materials, and strong AutoCAD + SolidWorks drafting capability, plus clear communication and comfort working in an active industrial environment. Important Details:

  • Contract-to-hire position

  • Pay rate range: $30 - $50/hr. Salary will be commensurate with experience.

  • Start date: As soon as possible

  • Work schedule: Monday through Friday, standard business hours (40 hrs/wk)

  • Work location: Onsite at our client's office in Foley, AL 36535

  • Weekly pay

  • Benefits after 30 days (health insurance, dental insurance, vision insurance, etc.)

  • 401k after 30 days

  • Job offer will be contingent on drug screen and background check

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop mechanical and structural design packages from concept through construction and installation

  • Produce fabrication-ready drawings including dimensions, tolerances, weld symbols, material specifications, and notes

  • Incorporate field measurements, existing/as-built conditions, and constructability considerations into all designs

  • Support layout development and equipment integration in active industrial operating environments

  • Coordinate directly with engineers, fabricators, and site personnel to resolve design, installation, and fit-up issues

  • Participate in site visits, field verification, and construction/start-up support as required

  • Contribute to internal design standards, quality assurance practices, and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

  • Experience with industrial mechanical design; experience in the steel or aluminum industries is strongly preferred

  • Working knowledge of fabrication practices, welding standards, and industrial materials

  • Proficiency with mechanical design and drafting software such as AutoCAD and SolidWorks

  • Ability to develop clear, well-organized drawing packages suitable for fabrication and installation

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with engineers, contractors, and plant personnel

  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a small-team, high-responsibility environment
