What is a Solidworks?

A SolidWorks job typically involves using the SolidWorks CAD (computer-aided design) software to create, modify, and analyze 3D models and engineering drawings. Professionals in this role may work in industries like manufacturing, automotive, aerospace, or product design. Responsibilities can include designing mechanical components, creating technical documentation, and collaborating with engineers and production teams. SolidWorks jobs may range from entry-level drafting positions to advanced engineering roles requiring extensive experience. Proficiency in SolidWorks and a strong understanding of mechanical design principles are often essential for success in this field.

What does a Solidworks do?

Professionals using SolidWorks spend much of their day creating and editing 3D models, generating detailed engineering drawings, and collaborating with team members on design iterations. They often review project requirements, participate in design reviews, and make adjustments based on feedback from engineers or clients. Problem-solving and troubleshooting design issues are common tasks, especially when preparing models for prototyping or manufacturing. Regular communication with cross-functional teams ensures that designs meet functionality, manufacturability, and quality standards.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a Solidworks?

To thrive in a SolidWorks role, you need strong proficiency in 3D CAD modeling, mechanical design principles, and engineering documentation, usually supported by a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with SolidWorks software, CAD data management tools, and relevant certifications like Certified SolidWorks Associate (CSWA) or Professional (CSWP) are highly valued. Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, and effective communication skills help set candidates apart. These skills enable efficient product development, clear technical documentation, and successful collaboration on engineering projects.

Is SolidWorks a good career?

SolidWorks is a widely used CAD software for mechanical design, and careers involving SolidWorks typically include roles such as mechanical engineer, design engineer, or CAD technician. These positions often require technical skills, certifications, and familiarity with engineering principles, offering opportunities in manufacturing, product development, and engineering firms.

Is Solidworks in demand?

SolidWorks is a widely used CAD software in engineering, manufacturing, and product design, and demand for professionals skilled in it remains strong due to ongoing needs for 3D modeling and mechanical design. Job opportunities often require proficiency in SolidWorks, along with related skills such as engineering principles and certification, making it a valuable skill in technical fields.

What professions use SolidWorks?

SolidWorks is widely used by mechanical engineers, product designers, CAD technicians, and industrial designers to create detailed 3D models and technical drawings. Professionals in manufacturing, aerospace, automotive, and consumer product development often rely on SolidWorks for designing and prototyping parts and assemblies. Proficiency in the software is valuable for roles requiring precise engineering and design skills.

Manufacturing / Process Engineer

Lokar

Knoxville, TN • On-site

$70K - $93K/yr

Full-time

Job description

Description:

Lokar Performance Products is seeking a confident and capable, upper-mid to senior level Manufacturing / Process Engineer, who is passionate about producing high-quality components and assemblies and loves to innovate the processes to do so. As the Manufacturing / Process Engineer at Lokar, you will not only help sustain and manage the quality and manufacturing aspects of existing products but will also help develop and manage the processes that bring exciting new offerings to the aftermarket automotive industry.

Lokar’s advantageous size will allow you to connect and collaborate with our entire team, including our CEO, product engineering, tech support, manufacturing, sales, and sourcing, on a regular basis. We won’t tie you up in endless and inefficient meetings. Instead, we offer you the freedom to take on projects autonomously and achieve outcomes that result in impressive products and process improvements. The ideal candidate would be a likeable and self-sufficient individual with strong SolidWorks skills, a copious amount of DIY technical experience (both personally & professionally), and a devotion to quality and detail. This person should have the confidence to succeed without micro-management and the humility to benefit from the experience of coworkers and suppliers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Join the team. Communication is vital at Lokar. Get to know your coworkers and benefit from their knowledge and experience.
  • Become the go-to engineer for anything and everything that is quality and manufacturing related.
  • Improve, create, and fully document the processes we use or will use to manufacture superior Lokar products.
  • Perform quality inspections for both incoming and outgoing components and assemblies, as needed.
  • As part of the Product Development Team, assist with concept generation and map necessary process plans.
  • Work with product engineering, manufacturing, and sourcing to complete prototype builds and to develop processes, tooling, and documentation to turn new product ideas into smoothly and efficiently manufactured components and assemblies.
Requirements:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electro-mechanical, or related).
  • Product and process design experience, primarily with (some or all): machined parts, injection molded components, castings, basic electrical circuits, and mild to moderately complex mechanisms.
  • Hands on experience, experience, experience – personal and professional; know how to use tools and intellect to build, repair, modify, disassemble, etc.

Skills:

  • Logical and efficient CAD modeling skills (SolidWorks preferred); know the fundamentals; know how to best utilize planes, centerlines, relations, and imbedded equations; know when a feature should be a “revolve” and when a feature should be an “extrusion”; Pro-E/Creo or Inventor experience will allow you to pick up SolidWorks quickly.
  • Drawings: apply best drafting practices; familiarity and usage of Y14 practices is a plus, including GD&T.
  • Design: be able to translate design intent into efficient processes and tooling while creating readable, detailed drawing packages and manufacturing instructions.
  • Ability to safely use basic hand tools; mill or lathe or welding experience is a plus.
  • Capable with Microsoft Office packages.

Company Culture:

  • We are an automotive company and love to chat about cars and other related hobbies, etc. We would love to hear about your passions.
  • Punctuality and a good, solid work ethic is key at Lokar. Be on time and help make great things happen here.

New perspectives are greatly appreciated………so, jump in the mix and voice your ideas.
