Job description

W.L. Walker Co., Inc. – Tulsa, Oklahoma

W.L. Walker Co. is looking for a SolidWorks Mechanical Designer / Draftsman to help design, redesign, and document the next generation of mechanical products for our manufacturing company.

We are a 100-year-old family-owned Tulsa manufacturer serving the petroleum measurement, sampling, and testing industry. Our products are real mechanical devices used in the field every day, and we are working on a new generation of improved products for the future.

This position is not just for someone who can sit at a desk and make drawings. We need someone who is mechanically minded, practical, and able to help think through how parts are built, assembled, improved, and manufactured.

The right person will work directly with ownership and three other engineers to update existing products, improve old designs, and help create new mechanical products from concept through production, in addition to working on current product line improvements.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and update SolidWorks 3D models
  • Prepare detailed 2D mechanical drawings for manufacturing
  • Help redesign and improve existing mechanical products
  • Assist with development of new product lines and next-generation designs
  • Work directly with ownership, engineers, and shop personnel
  • Measure existing parts and convert older designs into accurate SolidWorks models
  • Create assemblies, exploded views, production drawings, and revision updates
  • Think through fit, function, manufacturability, materials, tolerances, and assembly
  • Support machine shop, purchasing, quality control, and production with accurate drawings
  • Help organize and maintain part numbers, drawing files, and revision history

Ideal Candidate

  • Strong experience with SolidWorks 3D modeling
  • Mechanical-minded and able to understand how parts work in the real world
  • Able to help improve products, not just draw what they are told
  • Comfortable working around a shop, measuring parts, and talking with the people building the product
  • Understands tolerances, threads, fasteners, materials, assemblies, and manufacturability
  • Able to use calipers, micrometers, and basic measuring tools
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and practical
  • Willing to learn our products and help modernize a long-standing product line
  • Able to work directly with company ownership and engineering support

Preferred Experience

  • Mechanical drafting, product design, or mechanical design experience
  • CNC machining, fabrication, or manufacturing background
  • Experience redesigning or improving existing mechanical products
  • Experience converting legacy drawings or old parts into modern 3D models
  • Experience with small mechanical assemblies, machined parts, aluminum, stainless steel, brass, and plastics

Why This Position Matters

This is an opportunity to help shape the future of a 100-year-old American manufacturing company.

We are not looking for someone to simply trace old drawings. We are looking for someone who can help us think, design, improve, and build better products.

The right person will be involved in real product development and will have the chance to make a lasting impact on the next generation of W.L. Walker products.

Position Details

  • Full-time position
  • Located in Tulsa, Oklahoma
  • Pay based on experience
  • Family-owned manufacturing company
  • Direct involvement with ownership and engineering team
  • Hands-on product design and manufacturing environment
  • Benefits include health, dental, vision, life insurance, and retirement plans
