Job description

Position Purpose The part-time Solid Waste Grounds Technician primarily works within solid waste to provide cart rollback following specified disposal times. This position also assists in maintaining the grounds of Town-owned property and right-of-ways and performs other tasks as assigned. This year-round part-time position works up to 19 hours per week and weekends with no benefits.

Duties and Responsibilities These duties and responsibilities are not intended to be all-inclusive. Employee may perform other related duties as negotiated to meet the ongoing needs of the Town. Provide rollback service for solid waste containers along fixed routes.

Operates a Low-Speed Vehicle (LSV) along streets and right of ways in a safe and efficient manner. Utilizes a variety of hand and power tools in order to perform a task. Cleans project sites to include picking up trash, clearing debris, moving refuse to appropriate areas, and maintaining grounds.

Replenishes dog waste dispensers' bags as needed at parks and public facilities. Performs general/preventive maintenance tasks necessary to keep vehicles, equipment, and tools in operable condition, which may include inspecting equipment, refueling vehicles, checking fluid levels, replacing fluids, greasing equipment, replacing parts, washing/cleaning equipment, vehicles, and shop/work areas; monitors equipment operations to maintain efficiency and safety and reports faulty equipment. Cleans and removes debris from parks, beach accesses, street right-of-ways, gutters, storm drains, catch basins, drainage ditches, sidewalks, and street construction sites by shoveling, raking, sweeping, and picking up debris.

May remove dead animals from right- of-way as necessary. Stocks and maintains assigned vehicles and equipment. Makes simple records of work activities.

Works irregular hours including weekends, holidays and extended hours as needed. Performs work during emergency/disaster situations. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements Employee is generally exposed to outdoor conditions and may be frequently exposed to weather elements including rain, wind, varying temperatures, etc. In addition, the employee must effectively deal with personal danger, which may include exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials, fumes and smoke, intense heat, electrical hazards, confined or high workplaces, dangerous animals, extremely loud noises, hazards of working in and near traffic, and natural and man-made disasters.
