Job description

The Sr. Systems Engineer will work with the rest of Our Next Energy’s product development team to develop the system design and requirements for battery packs. They will be responsible for the battery design on a high abstraction layer from concept to production. They should maintain a holistic understanding of the entire battery pack. This includes ensuring that all elements—E/E hardware, software, and mechanical components—are properly integrated. They are also responsible for making sure customer requirements are fully cascaded and satisfied.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Requirement elicitation and gathering, managing and documenting all requirements from customer projects; cascading requirements to product development team
  • Develop complete system architecture in coordination with the E/E, hardware, software and ME design teams
  • Create and maintain requirements traceability in company toolset
  • Support system level integration testing plans, requirements verification and compliance
  • Perform/support in-vehicle & breadboard activities when required
  • Manage resolution or architecture issues; enforce design commonality (as practical) across concepts
  • Support system DFMEA creation and risk mitigation plans
  • Prepare customer presentations for review
  • Generate engineering design documentation and specifications
  • Perform physical testing on engineering prototypes
  • Assist with DV/PV test requirements between internal and external teams
  • Lead root cause analyses and problem solving (8D, RedX structure problem solving experience a plus)
  • Analyze test data, write detailed reports, present results and recommendations to engineering management
  • Work closely with operations, manufacturing, production engineers and suppliers to ensure products are designed properly for manufacture and assembly
  • Manage and verify requirements using the appropriate software tool
  • Work with internal and customer teams to define/improve processes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Technical degree in electrical, mechanical, aerospace, computer, systems engineering 
  • Experience with requirements managing tools such as DOORS / JAMA / Codebeamer / Polarion 
  • 4+ years of industry experience  
  • Preferred 2+ years of experience with battery module and/or pack design or battery thermal systems
  • Prior work deriving requirements form industry standards / regulations / norms 
  • General knowledge of product and functional safety concepts as they relate to battery systems 
  • Demonstrated competence in the development of electrical and /or electromechanical systems
  • Experience working directly with OEM / Tier 1 customers on integration topics highly preferred 
  • Detailed understanding of mechanical part fabrication methods  
    (e.g., machining, stamping, extrusion, welding, injection molding, casting, etc.) 
  • MBSE experience using tools such as Cameo / Enterprise Architect / Magic Draw / Capella  
  • Basic knowledge of SolidWorks / Onshape or similar mechanical CAD software (3D, 2D) 
  • A detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills
  • Strong communication abilities with a preference for working in teams and mentoring engineers
