Position Overview:
The SCADA Operations Manager will lead SCADA Department, accountable for building, organizing, and scaling a full-service SCADA department. This includes defining the department structure, staffing plan, and budget; hiring, training, and developing a growing team of SCADA and network professionals; and establishing the processes, standards, and tooling required to support fleet growth and the scalability of the SCADA support function.
The team will work in a cross departmental environment, on a variety of SCADA and DAS system related to Utility scale and Distributed scale solar and battery storage power plants, Telecom networks. The team will manage operating improvement initiatives, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, causal analysis and major repairs in coordination with on and offsite support pertaining to SCADA architecture, DAS platforms, networking and/or telecom needs.
As the SCADA Operations Manager, you will:
  • Build, lead, and scale the SCADA department supporting 900+ clean energy assets across North America, including solar, storage, and solar-plus-storage projects.
  • Define department structure, workforce plans, roles, hiring, onboarding, training, development programs, succession planning, and team KPIs tied to ticket response, resolution quality, and backlog health.
  • Design the SCADA support model, including escalation tiers, workload distribution, after-hours/on-call coverage, and scalable support processes aligned with fleet growth.
  • Support operating facilities with troubleshooting and upkeep of substation control systems, communications processors, meters, PPC, EMS, protective relays, DAS platforms, network equipment, telecom systems, and related SCADA infrastructure.
  • Own SCADA support-ticket governance from intake to closure, including issue classification, priority/severity assignment, escalation expectations, resolution documentation, field coordination, and closure verification.
  • Provide technical leadership and escalation support for corrective maintenance, outage recovery, telecom restoration, device replacement, commissioning support, alarm/event investigation, and complex field troubleshooting.
  • Use ticket data, field feedback, and operating trends to identify recurring SCADA, DAS, network, PPC, meter, tracker, inverter, weather-station, relay, and communications issues and convert them into corrective actions, standards updates, fleet improvements, or knowledge-base materials.
  • Define and continuously improve SCADA support workflows, diagnostic requirements, response expectations, escalation criteria, outage communications, closure-quality standards, and post-resolution lessons learned.
  • Partner with field leadership and technicians to provide remote guidance, safe troubleshooting direction, configuration files, network diagrams, as-built references, post-resolution feedback, and on-site diagnostics for critical or recurring issues.
  • Validate SCADA architecture and ensure additions, modifications, custom solutions, and operational standards are scalable, reliable, and aligned with business requirements.
  • Provide expertise on telemetry requirements for Independent System Operators, offtakers, FERC/ISO rules, and related operational compliance needs, including NERC-compliant energization, commissioning, and turnover plans.
  • Review and implement as-built documentation, drawing changes, commissioning reports, FAT reports, diagnostics, conceptual block diagrams, detailed design drawings, design schedules, and stakeholder updates.
  • Develop and deliver SCADA-related training for small and medium groups and maintain current industry knowledge through training sessions and conferences.
  • Manage SCADA vendor relationships, preventative and troubleshooting scopes, support cases, vendor escalations, resolution acceptance, ticket updates, and closure verification.
  • Specify, configure, design, and document SCADA, power plant controller, RTU, telecom, IT, and OT network equipment, including segmentation, site-survey updates, replacements, ACLs, ports, services, IP addressing, VLANs, physical interfaces, protocols, and firewall rules.
  • Maintain accurate operational records for each asset, including network topology, IP addressing, firmware/software versions, remote-access methods, critical spares, known limitations, recurring issues, and open corrective actions.
  • Support telecom procurement requirements, OT network implementation, remote and on-site construction monitoring, in-person stakeholder meetings, commissioning support, retrofit programming, and field support.
  • Coordinate with operations engineering, project teams, and third-party customers to incorporate lessons learned into new designs and improve SCADA reliability, business performance, and system performance.

What we're looking for:
At least 10 years of experience in Solar Engineering SCADA systems with excellent understanding of Electrical Control systems, telecom devices and substation devices. Storage Engineering is beneficial and plus. Experience in conducting site visits and evaluating technical issues in the field preferred. Preferred experience in Operations and Maintenance environments, including technical support-ticket management, field-service coordination, and corrective-action follow-through.
  • Strong technical knowledge within areas of industrial automation
  • Strong knowledge about DAS and MET stations needs for smaller scale projects
  • Experience with IEC 61850, Modbus, OPC UA, DNP3, SEL Fast Message, and other control system protocols over TCP/IP or serial.
  • Experience with protective relays, substation and renewable energy automation systems.
  • Experience with SEL RTAC and IED architecture design and configuration.
  • Experience with NERC-CIP cyber security standards.
  • Experience with IEEE 1547 inverters controlled as a system.
  • Experience with OT single mode fiber optic network design.
  • Network troubleshooting skills and experience with network analysis tools such as Wireshark, Modbus Poll, etc.
  • Experience with Excel macros and VBA language.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
  • Strong experience in reviewing Commissioning reports, FAT reports, diagnostics analysis.
  • Hands-on experience using CMMS, service desk, or ticketing platforms to manage technical work orders, document troubleshooting steps, track service expectations, communicate status, and verify corrective-action closure.
  • Demonstrated experience across multiple SCADA platforms and multiple DAS platforms; must not be dependent on a single OEM or single platform.
  • Proven experience hiring, training, and managing a growing technical team, including building or significantly scaling a department or support function.
  • Experience developing team processes, training programs, and operational standards in a growth environment.
  • Familiar with FERC, ISO rules and standards preferred.
  • Established record of experience with operations of SCADA systems, controls narrative and DAS/control systems.
  • Very organized and able to multitask effectively.
  • Good communicator both written and verbal skill.
