PV Solar Engineer - Remote/Travel Based Position

What are we looking for?

The PV Solar Engineer is responsible for executing the PV solar and BESS site inspections, testing, audits, and quality control service projects with a scope including but not limited to visual inspection, commissioning support, EL testing, IV curve testing , inline production monitoring, pre-shipment inspections on finished products, and container loading monitoring. This position requires over 80% of travel.

The PV Solar Engineer will be responsible for executing Engineering Services' projects such as: on-site inspections, audits, commissioning verifications, punch list generation, troubleshooting, drawings and design review, technical due diligence, independent engineering, etc., on time, within budget, and in compliance with all technical, commercial, safety regulatory, and environmental requirements to meet or exceed client's expectations. The candidate may also be involved in SOW development, proposal preparation, and report delivery to our clients (project developers, EPCs, independent power producers, lenders, investors, and financial institutions).

Candidates will be leading onsite teams consisting of engineers and technicians. The candidate should also be able to resolve conflicts, communicate effectively with clients, be comfortable working in a small group environment, and be willing to put in extra effort to coordinate activities across global time zones.

Salary & Benefits Information

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $110,000.Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors unique to each candidate including skill set, experience, qualifications, and other job-related reasons.

What you'll do:

  • Travel to client sites and perform systems audits, inspections and commissioning on solar PV and Storage systems, FAT and SAT testing for transformers, BESS systems
  • Coordinating with field service technicians, engineers, subcontractors, and other O&M personnel
  • Project manage systems audits, inspections, and commissioning to meet project schedule and budget
  • Ability to troubleshoot faulty systems and provide recommendations for corrective actions
  • Create reports on technical commissioning, findings, and/or inspections and communicate with the client in a professional manner
  • Provide leadership in health, safety, and environmental (HSE) issues on site and maintain overall responsibility for ensuring that the team complies with the HSE Plan
  • Ensure hazard/risk analysis is performed before the start of activities
  • Provide support to Marketing and Sales teams

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in Solar PV and BESS industry
  • Verifiable experience for O&M and commissioning in the field.
  • OSHA 10 certification (10hr) required.
  • Experience in using project management software
  • Proficiency in using MS Office- Word and Excel
  • Experience in reporting and client communication
  • Experience with I-V Curve Tracing, Megger Testing, Infrared Scanning, Visual Inspection, Multimeter Use and safety practices while conducting inspections and commissioning work
  • Fall Protection Trained
  • Training in arc-flash, lock-out/ tag-out, and other special protective equipment and procedures is desirable
  • Ability to work outdoors in harsh conditions, including but not limited to desert areas, snow conditions, long hours standing, climbing stairs, and using ladders
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron, and arm guards)
  • Ability to travel up to 80% of the time.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable driving record
  • Unexpired, valid United States Passport
  • This is a remote position; however, applicants must reside in and be able to legally work in the United States 

Preferred Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Electrician with experience in C&I and utility-scale PV systems
  • PE license, Medium Voltage, Hi voltage testing Experience
  • NABCEP PVIP certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain
  • Medium and Hi Voltage testing experience
