About the opportunity
SWCA Environmental Consultants is actively seeking an Assistant Staff Civil Engineer to join our growing Jacksonville, FL team supporting renewable energy projects nationwide.
In this role, you will support a variety of civil engineering efforts focused on site civil solar development, erosion and sediment control design, stormwater management, and hydrologic and hydraulic modeling. Our renewable energy portfolio spans projects across the United States, providing the opportunity to work on impactful, large-scale developments while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
As an Assistant Staff Civil Engineer, you will contribute to engineering design, preparation of construction drawings, technical analyses, and project coordination efforts across multiple projects. This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career engineer looking to grow professionally while working alongside experienced technical experts and project teams.
This is a full-time, hourly position offering competitive benefits and a flexible hybrid work environment. Candidates residing within driving distance of the Jacksonville, Florida office will be considered for this opportunity, as the selected candidate will be expected to work in the office several days per week.
What you will accomplish
  • Assist in engineering design and development of construction plans new solar developments.
  • Participate in field work for site assessments, erosion control inspections, and surveys.
  • Utilize AutoDesk Civil 3D for construction plan development.
  • Conduct hydraulic, hydrologic, and water quality assessments.
  • Collaborate with Project Manager to maintain project schedules and budgets.
  • Attend internal design training sessions for skill development.
  • Work independently and with team to meet deadlines in fast-paced environment.
  • Perform tasks under supervision, including design, drafting, and research.
  • Assist in permit applications, drawings, and CAD work.
  • Coordinate tasks with technicians or administrative staff.
  • Communicate with clients and regulatory agencies as directed.
  • Ensure safety plan implementation in field operations.

Experience and qualifications for success
Minimum Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering, environmental engineering, or related engineering degree.
  • At least 1 year of experience in site civil engineering.
  • Knowledge of erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, and civil site design principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Ability to obtain an EIT certification within an agreed upon timeframe.
  • Familiarity with engineering software such as AutoCAD and Civil 3D.
  • Experience in supporting proposal development and client management activities.

An employee in this Jacksonville, Florida based position can expect an hourly pay rate between $26.75/hour to $36.51/hour.
