Job description

Summary Description: North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation (NCEMC), a Raleigh-based electric utility company, has an opening for an Accountant I. The role of the Accountant I is to prepare and properly account for transactions of North Carolina Electric Membership Corporation (NCEMC) and its subsidiaries, North Carolina Association of Electric Cooperatives, Inc. (NCAEC), and Tarheel Electric Membership Association, Inc. (TEMA).

Academic and Trade Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree is preferred; Associate’s degree and equivalent experience is required.

Work Experience: Two to five years of general accounting experience. Fixed asset accounting experience and experience working with Oracle JD Edwards and Microsoft Office is preferred.    

Responsibilities:

  • Fixed Asset Accounting
    • Maintain the Construction in Progress accounts for all companies.
    • Maintain the fixed asset subsidiary accounting system including all fixed asset additions, transfers, retirements and monthly depreciation.
    • Prepare necessary monthly fixed asset journal entries, reconciliations and reports.
    • Recommend to management any updates to accounting policies related to fixed assets.
  • Solar Project Accounting
    • Record activity for all Solar Company transactions.
    • Prepare monthly reconciliations and financial statements for all Solar Companies.
    • Prepare monthly billing for all Solar Companies to NCEMC.
    • Prepare quarterly solar consolidation reconciliation and necessary entries.
  • Compliance
    • Manage compliance filings for all companies
    • Distribution of deliverables to external parties
    • Maintenance of internal compliance site
  • Maintain the prepaid expense activity for NCEMC and all Solar Companies.
  • Assist in the preparation of journal entries and monthly reconciliation of NCEMC general ledger accounts, as needed.
  • Assist in the preparation of miscellaneous analyses, as assigned.
  • Provide information for auditors and tax accountants, as requested.
  • Perform other duties as required.

    Job Knowledge: Must possess effective working knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and common accounting procedures. 

    Abilities and Skills: Must demonstrate the ability to identify and resolve basic accounting problems. Must possess the ability to proficiently use automated accounting and office systems.  Must be organized and able to consistently meet deadlines.  Effective social and critical thinking skills are necessary.  Results-oriented and motivated with a sense of personal accountability.

    • Internal Relationships: Responsible for maintaining internal relationships necessary to achieve the purpose of the position and the desired results.
    • External Relationships: Responsible for maintaining external contacts to achieve desired results.
