Job Description: Senior Engineer, Code Compliance & Permitting — BrightVault, Inc.

Location: Denver, CO (frequent travel to Colorado mountain/resort markets and occasional national travel)
Reports to: CEO

About BrightVault
BrightVault designs and delivers premium residential energy storage systems (ESS) for luxury custom homes, built on Hybrid inverter platforms with LFP battery chemistry. We work directly with builders, electrical contractors, solar installers, architects, and authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) to deliver code-compliant, high-performance systems on some of the most demanding residential projects in the country.

The Role
We're looking for a Senior Engineer to lead technical design, code compliance, and permitting strategy across BrightVault's active project portfolio. This is a hands-on role — you'll be the primary technical point of contact for builders, AHJs, battery/inverter vendors, and fire protection engineers, while also supporting quoting, system design, and vendor coordination.

What you'll do

  • Lead system design and technical specification for custom residential ESS installations, including single-line diagrams, load schedules, and battery/inverter sizing
  • Serve as BrightVault's primary liaison to AHJs across multiple jurisdictions on code compliance — NFPA 855, IFC 1207 dedicated equipment space and fire separation requirements, and local amendments
  • Coordinate directly with fire protection engineers and battery manufacturers on UL 9540A large-scale fire testing interpretation and code compliance strategy
  • Manage the permitting lifecycle end-to-end: drawing packages, engineering stamps (PE coordination), plan check corrections, inspections, and permit finalization
  • Produce and quote custom system designs for dealers, reps, and direct builder relationships, including scope exclusions and pricing
  • Support vendor relationships with battery and inverter manufacturers, including technical troubleshooting, firmware updates, and warranty/compliance issues
  • Coordinate on-site installation timelines with electrical contractors and general contractors, including generator/BrightVault system integration and emergency system coordination
  • Represent BrightVault at industry events and training (CEDIA, NFPA, ICC) to stay current on code development

What you bring

  • Deep knowledge of NFPA 855, IFC/IBC fire and life-safety code as applied to battery energy storage systems
  • Experience with inverter/battery system design (Sol-Ark, or comparable platforms) and single-line diagram development
  • Track record managing multi-jurisdiction permitting and AHJ relationships
  • Comfort owning both the technical and commercial sides of a project — quoting, vendor coordination, and client-facing communication
  • PE license or working relationship with licensed engineers for stamped drawings (a plus, not required)
  • Strong written communication — this role runs almost entirely on email/coordination across builders, vendors, and code officials
